Most reviewers were probably just expecting him to have a change of heart, like in Disney movies, and then got upset that it didn't turn out how they wanted it to.

Comparing Steele to Hitler is a bit too far. But yeah, he didn't have a change of heart as the trend was so he was downvoted. I don't know why there's heaps of fanfics with Steele having a change of heart anyways, it's not within his nature to do so.

I'm not sure if we should drag Hitler into this... I don't see what's so one-dimensional about Steele. He was a very colourful character whose motives were clear. Compare him to Clayton, the villain in Tarzan. Clayton just wanted to shoot the gorillas for no reason whatsoever, whilst Steele wanted to stay popular and respected.

Nah he isnt one dimensional, hes clearly highly egotistical and wouldnt think twice about forsaking others to gain advantage to his own

He has a bloated ego (like Hitler), a nasty attitude (like Hitler), a desire to win so much that he'll kill to get his way (like Hitler), and he has a cold, dark, perfect-for-a-bad-guy voice (like Jeremy Iorns). In many ways, he is like Scar. Steele and Scar are both rather unappreciated because they don't have magical powers like Jafar or......or....well i can't think of anyone else. So, first question: who do you think Steele most represents, and do you agree with the people who say he is 'one-dimensional?' Don't be afraid, EXPRESS YOUR OPINIONS! Steele reminded me of Hitler too, even before I read this pic, eh even has an expression like Hitler (see link athe bottomof my post)! Both of them are KomodoVistas wrote: Hitler huh?

I think Steele can be compared to real people. He represents people who are arrogant, selfish, spoilt and obsessed with their image. Steele might not have magical powers, but he has human qualities that make him much more imposing than Jafar. (although I still like Jafar!)
As amusing as Komodo's picture is, I really, really, really, really do not think that one should compare a cartoon dog to Hitler. Steele wasn't responsible for millions upon millions of deaths, for a start...

Quote: Steele wasn't responsible for millions upon millions of deaths, for a start... If Balto didn't decide to track down the team, Steele would be responsible for the deaths of Nome's youth. All because of his ego. So, the image holds some water. Still, he shouldn't be compared to Hitler at all, but then again, it wasn't intended to be serious. Betawolf, not all Disney movies end with bad guys turning good. Around the time Balto was released, most ended with that magical spark of brutality Disney always subtly injects into the minds of society... Lion King: Scar dies Little Mermaid: Ursula is completely destroyed 101 Dalmatians: Even a nasty car wreck doesn't turn Cruella good Aladdin: Jafar is imprisoned in a lamp Great Mouse Detective: Rattigan dies I'm sure there's more.

It would be quicker to list the Disney movies that DO wind up with villains having a change of heart! Though I must admit I love when that happens...but it's more common with a, shall we say, less-than-pure-evil, not-the-main-villain villain. Like Iago.
Um, more to the point, I don't see Steele as one-dimensional...he's just not a good role model. Of course there ARE people who're like him personality trait-wise, and they're not admirable, either. It doesn't mean they have no depth or aren't real. Of course I wouldn't go so far as to compare Steele to Hitler, either, but I can generally see where you're going with that as a not-completely-serious thing (and the picture was funny.) I'm sure there could be more accurate comparisons though, famous or not. Still--Steele never did give a darn about those sick children. He only ever cared about himself. Perhaps his willingness to sacrifice them all just for his own image DOES lend something to it...the same sort of disregard for life he didn't value.. It's an interesting point that Scar and Steele might be underappreciated because of their lack of any kind of mystical powers; they're just ordinary bad guys. I guess you'd have to divide all the villains into "magical powers" and "no magical powers" and see which are generally more popular, or if it makes a difference.
