This is mainly for the people new to adopting. We've needed guidelines for them for a while so here they are!
Adoption is when one user posts a character for adoption and interested users fill out a form about their plans for the character. The offer of the character then chooses the most eligible person in their eyes.
Please remember that when adopting, you may not always get that character. There's no guarantee. Just keep trying and eventually you'll get one!
Here are some basic guides when it comes to adopting. 1. Characters for adoption shouldn't be photos of real animals made into a character. 2. Don't make multiple threads for different characters. Instead, make one thread for them all. 3. Don't make 'looking for' topics, as most likely if you look through what's on offer you'll find what you're looking for. 4. Remember to remember your topics! A lot of adoption threads get abandoned by their creators, and it clutters up the forum. 5. This is the adoption forum. That means that once you decide to give a character up for adoption, there's no going back unless specified in your terms of adoption. 6. The character up for adoption must be your own character. You can't take another person's character and put it up. 7. Don't be controlling when it comes to who adopts your character. That just isn't in the general spirit of things.
Also, some tips!
1. Post a picture and detailed information about your character so potential adoptees have a rough idea of what they could do with it once they adopt. 2. Draw a picture of the character you want to adopt. Trust me, it helps. 3. Post as much information as you can about your plans for the character. 4. If you're going to use the character in a fanfic, write a sample passage. 5. If the character you put up was adopted from another user, ask that user if it's okay to put it up, as the conditions of adoption given by said user may request that if you don't want the character anymore it goes to the next preferred person.
Hopefully this helps the new folk and the old. Happy adopting!

I've probably also linked it a MILLION TIMES on the ShoutBox
It would be easier and would save time if somebody, a mod, actually TOOK the initative to STICKY this after HOW MANY TIMES PEOPLE HAVE ASKED WHAT ADOPTION IS.
