Just out of general interest.
Would you prefer a purebred pup with pedigree or a rescue dog (most likely to be a crossbreed)?
Personally, I'd love a Siberian Husky but then I think of all the dogs in Rescue Homes looking for homes, some desperate for a home else they'll be put to sleep. Plus, if you're lucky you can get purebred rescue dogs. My dad's English Springer Spaniel is a purebred and one of the dogs before him was a purebred spaniel and she came with her pedigree papers. They were from a Springer Spaniel Rescue near us. As for Archie, he's a rescue dog he's gorgeous and he came ready-trained.
Also, I hate it when people go out and get a purebred puppy just because of its looks and don't do any research and therefore can't handle it. It just ends up being put to sleep or in a rescue home with behavioural problems.
It's nice to see purebreds around but at the same time there's nothing more unique than a rescue crossbreed. =]

Quite honestly? A purebred dog. If I'm getting a dog, I want to know something about its ancestry, and I can therefore take a fairly well-educated guess as to what it will grow up to be like.
I have nothing against mutts, though. I've seen heaps of dogs at my local shelter who I'd just die to take home ;_; And actually, having a different-looking dog would be quite appealing. However, the dogs at my local shelter generally don't stay there long and if they do, they don't get put down. And the shelter is set across from a large park, so they get walked every day as well as some time in the paddock, so I don't feel guilty about leaving them there.

Rescued mutt, or rescued purebred. Why buy a dog like some Siberian Husky, when you can get a purebred Husky from the shelter.. or some more expensive breed? You can find a purebred rescued dog, if you look hard enough.. sometimes not hard at all. Rescued dogs have also been known to be more well trained then dogs you buy at a pet shop.

I don't think I'd get a purebreed unless I was specifically wanting a dog of that breed... I'm more likely to want a type of dog, knowing me, such as terrier, medium sized dog etc. It's probably likely I'd end up buying a crossbreed from a petstore (where is that option gah!) but I'd love to take in a rescue dog one day.

to Sheba and Maugrim.. well you also have to do research on the dog too from the shelter to know of what you're getting into right?.. if it's a border collie jack russel or something then you'd have to research on those 2 breeds .. anyways i won't go on back on topic well for me.. purebred or adopted is to me .. same thing if you're looking for the same breed it more likely is.. cuz the ones at shelters you can find LOTS of pure dogs there just no papers... but mutts and mongrels (more than 3 breeds in them) ARE definitely unique but if you think about it.. All dogs are unique in their own way not one dog you will see acting or thinking the same way.. so you can't just say "oh i have a mutt and he's soooo unique look at what he can do".. sure but purebreds can do probably just as much as a mutt can.. it's all in the owner and to AlueWolf > purebreds don't get all what they want.. those are what you call show breeds or show dogs. i have a purebred myself and she doesn't get all what she wants anyways... be careful what you people say about dogs.. and mutts can also get what they want too..

I strongly support rescuing over purebred puppies. unlike puppies from breeders, rescued dogs only have a week or less to live due to overcrowding in shelters. that was the case with my gorgeous PUREBRED german shepherd caesar, who we found by searching http://www.petfinder.com. he was put in a kill shelter and only weighed 52 lbs. when we got him. this was him when we first got him, about a year ago.he was chained outside for so long that he had a chain embedded in his neck that had to be surgically removed. his fur was a mess before we cleaned him up too( had ticks, matted undercoat). apart from all hes been through, the most sweetest, lovable and well behaved dog. when he first came, he didn't even know how to play with a squeaky toy ball. ever since that first day though, you can see it in his eyes how thankful he is.... Sorry for the gianormous images guys before at 52 lbs. (you can even see his ribs at this point ) this is him now, at about 90 lbs.(yay, healthy!) so please, if your considering adopting or fostering ANY type of pet check out http://www.petfinder.comyou could save an animal's life
