But Cussing banned for two days, and talking on the rp banned for 10? That is just whacked O_O

Also I think that:
Multiple Accounts(2): 3 Days
Multiple Accounts(3-5): 6 Days
Multiple Accounts(5-12): 10 Days
Multiple Accounts(12-anything higher): Be ten less than the number of accounts they have if it's in the 40's or higher O_o If below 40 than it should be at least 15 days.

Amen. Even I have to agree with this, because I've always thought there needs to be a set amount of days for certain offenses. And each mod should MAKE it known to the other mods about when and who they warned for which offense, because a person can get three strikes from fifteen different mods for the same offense and no one will know about it.

To add, even though I think its stupid that it took personal experience on my part and learn from word of mouth that its happening to people other than myself, that people will get longer ban times for offending a mod.

For example, person #1 insults person #2 and gets a week ban (give or take a warning was given). But then person #3 insults person #4, who happens to be a mod, and gets a month ban (give or take a warning was given). Everyone knows of this happening to some person whether it be themselves or someone they know. The mods insist they're not playing God-mod or whatever, but that right there gives people reason to say they are, so to ban them just to shut them up isn't fair.

I even think a ban for an HOUR would suffice for punishment. Like on Encyclopedia Dramatica, they will ban someone for 45 minutes for an offense like I dunno, spamming or something. Now, sometimes, for past offenses, you need to lengthen ban time, especially if you've been told again and again and again, but if its not even that big a deal and they've been punished for it (ex. talking about religion, no matter how civilized the conversation plays out) I think an hour+ punishment would be good too, know what I mean? I mean yeah, some people just won't quit cuz all they want to do is get people angry, but people like that, etc. will always come into play and have to be considered anyway.

Actually, there has been an effort to codify all the different offenses and link them with a corresponding ban, thus creating a comprehensive rule-set to follow for both the regular members and the mods. Last thing I heard of it was that it was under review by the mods, but that takes time. I figure they'll be made public in a few weeks/months.

I appreciate that. You mean that of the given excerpt, or of the entire list in general (assuming you've already had a looker at the entire list)? Weren't the rules about multiple offenders a bit too elaborate?

Well, indeed we are working on a list of ban-times. But as stated some posts above; sometimes the offense is too big to follow the list.

And cat14, I'm sad to see that you're still a bit bitter from your "vacation", BUT you were found guilty in much more than just harassing a moderator. I won't name it for you, but I do have info that you posted links to, mildly, inappropriate websites multiple times, you were rude and mean (which was the reason the petition was raised against you and you were stripped of the moderator status), and I've spoken with the mods, especially Togo, who agreed with the ban, AND the "old-schooler" mods had also seen you break the rules multiple times without consequences. I suspect it it because they fear your "minions". You were lucky you recieved only 3 weeks.
In short, ban times are not "longer" for insulting mods, than insulting other members, but it is lengthened by the number of warnings recieved, previous crimes (i.e breaking the rules), etc etc. There are many more factors than just "I insulted a mod and got banned for longer than the guy who insulted a normal member! *crai*", you see.

I agree with this, and in fact we talked about something like this recently. I've asked the mods to give me a list of the reasons and suggested lengths, yours seems fine but I'm not sure that all the possible reasons are specified. Well the mods probably know them better than me.
By memory, I would add things like :
Spamming, Talking nonsense, Asking for personal information, Bringing forbidden topics (religious, politics...)

This also reminds me that I should add a link to the site rules on the shout box...I think keeping the same batch of rules everywhere is better.

Well, a list exists, including even rules about abusing authority (20 & 21), religion and politics (41 & 42), spam (35,37 & 38), repeated punishment (5), ... so all those (real or imagined, I'm not the judge of that) complaints members like cat have should really be a thing of the past.

Well, yesterday I found a member; GhostWolf, had been banned by someone for TWO MONTHS for insulting a moderator.... Sadly it proves Cat14's point (although I hate to admit it). Reduced his ban-time to three weeks, however.

But yes, just like everyone on BS; we are people, and without a list of referrance, we have different opinions of banning time.
But let me assure you all that we ARE working on keeping it fair, but the fair mods can't be around everywhere at all times, you know?

Although, the number of times you've been banned already is also taken in account, so even for the same banning reason, you can have totally different banning times depending if that's your 1st or your 9th ban.
