Reviewers are crazy. Balto has a soft personality, and Kevin Bacon's soft voice fits it really well. Actually, all of the voices fit well... except for Rosie's granddaughter!

Of course Kevin Bacon suits Balto. Although the expressing emotion side he's not too super at.

Kevin Bacon has an average-joe voice, and that's good for Balto since he was the average-joe around his town.

But that's the problem. Universal spend a whole lot of money on a big name and got an average-joe voice. To me, that's not the best investment if you're on budget. It's also on part of the director. I will dare say that Simon Wells is a very mediocre director. The only reason that Balto didn't completely fail was that the voice actors were good in the first place, especially the veteran in voice acting, Jim Cummings. Kevin Bacon's first and only voice acting was Balto, so he probably didn't know how to act in front of microphone, thus, he came up bland and flat.

One thing you have to admit, whether you liked Kevin Bacon's Balto or not...
"Since when do you need a pedigree to help someone?" came off rather weak.

It does a bit, and that's supposed to be a strongly-spoken line too.

I think his voice is way too deep, and sometimes... he just isn't that good at expressing emotion, which is why he's lucky he has such big eyes to express what he's feeling XD His "Since when do you need a pedigree to help someone?!" was rather weak, and was said strangely. But I personally can't picture Balto with a softer voice, but I do think Kevin could've put more effort into emotion

Bridget Fonda, I think, suited Jenna perfectly. She had a deep and strong, yet soft and feminine voice, which is pleasing to listen too. I can't picture Jenna with a better voice actor

Jim Cummings was too perfect for Steele. Cold, deep, vicious, sexy (XD) like Steele.

Sorry I started on about the other voices, I know we're talking about Kevin Bacon XD But I still think more effort could've been put into out hero's voice. Sometimes the voice gets so deep it's painful to sensitive ears like mine XD

I think Balto's voice was somewhat flat, but most of his character is sent across to us via his facial expressions and body language.

I think Balto's voice suited some of the less serious parts with Boris quite well.

You thought his voice is too deep? I thought it was an average, boring, baritone, voice. Feast your ears on the Hungarian dub. THAT is deep.

How about getting the point across to Steele?
