I have a word of caution on using these sorts of color in a character.
I think it's mainly the black contrasting against the brown that's your problem here, they don't blend together very well. Gray and black is fine, and certain shades of brown and gray can look good, but not brown and black.

Just my opinion but I think the brown is fine how it is, I love it when I see brown and black wolves they look sooo cute
