Ah, the typical werewolf story. The basic reason why wolves were mass murdered worldwide.

Here's a few werewolf movies I conjured up from memory. (In order from greatest to least.)

1 - An American Werewolf in London - Great movie. I suggest everyone sees this. It's funny, the wolves aren't brutally ugly, and the ending sucks so bad, it's good. So many people die in funny ways, and the car crash scene is hilarious. Watch!
2 - Van Helsing - Very interesting story, believable computer animation, and well directed.
3 - Dark Wolf - Tacky beyond belief, but produced creatively. It's exceptionally funny when one of the wolf's victims gets murdered right after taking a dump. Sucks for him...
4 - Underworld - Shows the true power of the Lycanthrope. Too bad some immature wolf-vampire hybrid comes along and ruins the entire film. Well, the movie was already ruined, but the main characters made it worse.
5 - An American Werewolf in Paris - I eagerly watched this expecting it to be better than AAWL, but boy was I in for a nasty surprise.

I know I missed many. What are your opinions on these or other werewolf movies? Share!

Blood and Chocolate is a fair werewolf movie despite the major differences it has with the original book. It shows off a different view point on werewolves that I believe other films never bothered to explore.

There's also Skinwalkers that I have yet to see.

American werewolf in London is probably the definitive werewolf movie. Great cast, great effects (without relying on the evil that is CGI) and simple straight forward story (Which I think in any horror movie is better).

I've never seen it, but a friend of mine mentioned a werewolf movie that sounded pretty neat called "Dog Soldiers."

Next time you're at Blockbuster and your sister tags along, tell her it's an emergency and you need to see it.

I liked the Underworld movies although I didn't get to see as many werewolves as I'd hoped.

Van Helsing is one of my fave movies of all time! I love the story, I love the characters and I really love the black Van Helsing werewolf at the end! I was especially happy that the werewolf actually looked wolfish and the "transformation" didn't look silly.

I really liked Blood & Chocolate even though they weren't the typical "hollywood style" werewolves and were actual wolves. The story was OK but not the best one I've read/watched.

Also, it may be a TV episode instead of a movie but I really loved the werewolf in Doctor Who aswell, series 2, episode 2 "Tooth & Claw". The story was awesome and it had some unusual twists that many movies haven't had, like the werewolf being "allergic" to mistletoe and a perfect diamond placed in the direct, concentrated moonlight was the thing to kill it, not silver bullets this time, although there was a reference to them being "out" of silver bullets.

I liked Wolf aswell, again not a typical werewolf movie, the guy turns into an actual wolf instead of a werewolf but it had some really good effects despite the age of the film and the story was good too.

Ginger Snaps was OK, the stories aren't too bad and the werewolves look good but I've seen better ones. You didn't get to see many werewolves on-screen either, more of an atmospheric theme really, not bad but not the best either.

I've not seen American werewolf in London yet, I was going to buy it but I needed the money for something else and when I did have the money the shop had none left. I've not seen American werewolf in Paris either but I'm not that interested in that one.

Another Werewolf movie that no one has mentioned is The Wolfen. It, like Blood and Chocolate uses wolves, but not until the end do you actually see them.

So far, those are the only two "werewolf" movies Ive seen. I like them both but purely because they are not a half wolf/half man thing. I dont really believe or like werewolves...yet. Will have to look in getting some movies.

Since Im here, the shots of wolves in Blood and Chocolate are cool. Anyone know if they used CG wolves or are they using live wolves? You just cant tell anymore. The stalking and fighting shots are awesome.

I didn't care for the fact blood and chocolate called their transformations "werewolves" It kind of in a way reminded me of a romantic real Wolf's rain the way they transformed and all.....the storyline was interesting though.
Van Helsing was the movie that changed my view on werewolves, because the only mmovie I had seen prior to it with a werewolf was The Wolfman(which should be apreciated being it was the root of the werewolf ideas in hollywood) and that wolf episode of goosebumps,in both I found werewolves extremely ugly.
Van Helsing had the werewolves that look all masculine and anthro and thats the way I think a werewolf should look. ^^
However, I'm always up for watching movies where they do not look like that as long as it has a good plot. :D
