...is why people can say "I hate all anime!" without anyone (rightfully)pointing out that said person is generalizing, but whenever someone says "I hate all *insert any other form of film or television*!" you get just about everyone, not just fans of whatever medium the person said they hated, screaming "GENERALIZATION!" and demanding an elaboration on the opinion.

And it seems like an incredibly irrational hatred in the first place once you break it down and look at what is basically being said. It's basically, "I hate ALL animation from Japan, and despite the multitude of different styles and target demographics, show me ANY anime series and I can guarantee that I'll despise it." Guess what? There's no difference between animation from this country or that country or any other place in the world with the exception of the language that the characters speak in(which can be put in past tense if it was dubbed) and sometimes the standards of what's for small children and what's not.

Of course everyone has the right to an opinion, but if the example I provided above is not really what you're trying to say, I strongly suggest changing the wording to something that makes a little more sense. Like these:

"I've seen *insert number* different anime series, and I haven't liked any of them."

"I haven't watched any anime before, but I've heard things from my friends about *insert anime series name* and I probably wouldn't like it."

And please, even if you've only seen ONE anime that you've liked, don't leave it out of the equation. Just say 'most". It's not that hard to say "I hate most anime that I've seen, but I have liked one of them." I, personally, am not a huge fan of MOST live-action movies and TV shows, but I do like a handful. Not that many, but it's enough to prevent me from walking around saying, "I freaking despise all live action and the people who make it should be burned alive!" No, saying that would make me look like a hypocrite and render this entire rant useless. I don't do it, and neither should anyone else, whether talking about anime, live-action, etc.

Hopefully I've stated my opinion in a way that won't get this post heavily edited or wiped from the site entirely, but just in case, I'm not pointing out anyone specific or trying to offend anyone. That's not what I try to do.

wow...I couldn't say it better myself. This always seems to grind my gears, when they label all anime as stupid just because they saw one or so anime shows that they didn't like (which is usually dubbed). You can't just the whole multitude of different animes just by only a couple, that's like judging everyone in the world badly just because a couple people were mean to you.

I agree 100%

I thought about that, but I always figured that the rant section was for stuff that had to do with the site and forum itself.

I agree 100%. You can't say you hate ALL anime until you've actually seen them all (which is impossible as far as I can tell).

Hate is a strong word. I think the appropriate way of putting it is "disinterest". For example, I'm not wild about anime. I give people odd looks when they're planning to go to an anime con (then again, with those cosplays, who wouldn't?). But I don't hate it. In fact, there are several anime shows that I enjoy. Cowboy Bebop is a work of art, as is Wolf's Rain. Plus, I like Naruto before it was cool. That's right, I watched the downloaded Japanese ones with subtitles with my bro. I lost interest in Naruto then suddenly all the Americans discover it. The movie Escaflowne was decent as well. There's no reason to hate anime, but I don't go out to the store and buy those silly manga books in stock.

Nah. You can complain about anything and everything in that section...

Actually it is just for things about the site. Most rants that are not to do with the site are closed if they are posted on the rant board.

Anyway, I'm not a great fan of anime and I feel it can dominate various places on the Internet, but I don't hate it. As Gauntlet said, hate is such a strong word. I have more of a disinterest in it. (although I love Spirited Away!)
It does annoy me, however, to see real die-hard anime fans make a generalization of all Western animation and say it is 'childish' or 'silly.' I guess they've never seen Watership Down then!

I agree competely. So many different styles, genre's, storys, like movies - with anime there's literally something for everyone. So I don't get how people can say they hate anime.
People that just don't know what their talking about, I suppose.

No it does not belong in the rant board.

Rant board's description:
Quote:
Are you bothered by something on the site? Do you have any problem with someone or something here? Try letting out your thoughts here, in order to solve the problems with the help of the mods.

The rant board is about problems on the site (such as spamming and art theft), this a completly different matter.

Well, since everyone here has caved faster than the Oakland Raiders against the New England Patriots, I'll go ahead and say it.

I don't like anime.

There you have it. The argument that I can't say I don't like (or hate, although hate is an awfully strong word for something as stupid as how you feel about a style of animation) anime because I haven't seen every piece of anime out there is ridiculous. By that logic, you can't say you don't like anything. No person has experienced all possible permutations of anything on earth. You can't say you hate rap, because you haven't listened to every rap song ever made? Simply ridiculous. I don't like anime, I have never liked anime, and in the future, I will probably continue to not like anime. It's just that simple. I don't like pickles, I don't like soccer, and I don't like anime. There's nothing wrong with that.

Eh, I don't know about that. You can't judge all dubs just by a couple either. FMA, Wolf's Rain, and Cowboy Bebop's dubs were excellent, just to name a few.

Ya, I know, but there are a lot of dubs that aren't very good...that's why I put usually

Though, a few are pretty good, like, as you said, FMA, Wolf's Rain, Cowboy Bebop, etc.
