I had never heard of that term before, but read this :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_%28fiction%29

I find this interesting, because for now I didn't have any other word to say this except for "official". We could then say that the Balto sequels are not "canon"

I've read about this too, but I didn't realize it could apply to the Balto sequels. Yay for several annoying characters not existing \o/!

Yeah, I hear that word a lot, and I've used it... always thought the sequels could fall under non-cannon Balto merchandise.

I've heard that word lots of times on deviantART. I fuigered it out after a while, it seems very common to use it with "shipping"

Kay, thanks for that insightful tidbit after months of inactivity. Take it from me; a canon is an original work of literature that's taken by most scholars to be worthy of commemorance and is considered to be study-worthy in contemporary lessons. Common examples include Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlett Letter, F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, and Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged.

A canon isn't an "offical" genre, as of course, there's no set way to determine if a work is "good enough" to be categorized in this sector.
