I was browsing the VHS/DVD section of Universal and look what I've found:

http://homevideo.universalstudios.com/d ... ldId=37035

It's a pack containing three Amblimation films - An American Tail, The Land Before Time and yep, you guessed it, Balto! This has been done before in some countries, but never in the US.
They are billed as 'family favorites,' although of course, anyone of any age can enjoy them. The extra features on the DVDs do not look promising, and Balto is still in fullscreen. (AAT and LBT have an aspect ratio of 1:37:1) But still, at least the main part of Universal has finally done something for Balto, since The Land Before Time and An American Tail are both very popular films, and some people might want to buy them together for their children, and discover Balto at the same time.

The pack's release date is 6th November 2007.

well at least people gets to know balto even though they havent heard of it before like canis lupus mentioned. if they buy this dvd pack. however there is one problem. universal won´t know was it balto, american tail or land before time fan. it is only money they are after. so this wont help universal to know their fans.

I disagree. If more people buy this pack, more people will be buying Balto. Balto would be making more money and Universal might actually listen to our petition. It's not about Universal knowing its fans - it's more about Balto getting the success it deserves.

YES! Finally! They're doing one of the things I had wanted them to do
(This has been added very recently because I looked into this catalog a few days ago...)

Releasing the film in a pack with other - more known - films is a very good way to get more fans. I think this has good chances to sell well. Of course the films content is still the same, and it hasn't got much interest for everyone here who already has the "regular" Balto dvd.

But the best point of this is : that means that they haven't entirely forgotten about An american tail and Balto. Does this mean they have an idea behind this? I'm not really sure, probably not but we never know.

EDIT : A better screenshot :

I appreciate that they've written "Steven spielberg", as it will be sure to sell better with his name on...Also the cover is rather nice, for once.

I think I have a much better theory. I think they're doing this, to see if it's worth making anymore sequels of those three movies.
If it sells well, and they recieve positive feedback, they'll probably revive those three movies again.

By the way; I didn't even know about "An American Tail" until just now lol

Though you might be right, steet.

Maybe, maybe not, I think not because I guess they just did that for making money easily, but it's a possibility.
And...do you really think Land before time need to be "revived", with currently a TV series and a new DTV sequel upcoming?...

Really?? It was as much known as Disney films like "Beauty & the beast" or "Aladdin", back to the time it was released...But then, Universal "destroyed" it just like Balto...

LBT has a TV series now? And... And a sequel? O.O I didn't know.

And seriously, I never knew An American Tail until right now :O
(I'm Norwegian, which might pose a factor)
I never saw Beauty and the Beast until I played KH2, and the first Aladdin movie I watched was, like, 4 years ago xD

I know, I'm hopelessly out of date.

Nice that they realize even a portion of baltos selling potential. :D

At first i thought that the ''3 DVD pack containing Balto'' meant that it had all 3 Balto movies. I really wish that someday it would.

And it's also quite cheap: only $20. I'm sure this will help Balto a lot, and the fact that they put it with important Universal cartoons like An American Tail and, especially LBT, is a very good thing.

Now we'll have to wait and see. But if it works or not will depend on how many units there will be : if it's completly unfindable in local stores, then it won't sell well, that's pretty logical but I kinda fear this...

Maybe they still consider Balto one of the best animated movies they've produced.

Well they always make "3 dvd packs", and besides We're back (and Curious george), they don't own the licenses to other animated films, so...

I really do hope it sells well. If it's got The Land Before Time in it, I'm sure it'll be easy to find - TLBT is so popular. But as you said, we'll just have to wait and see...
