My gray fish has a bladder infection and a big lump on his/her stomach and floats upside down. Now they're bleeding badly and I don't know what to do! I've had this fish for over two years and I'm not letting it die because of that stupid other fish I have who is about the size of a small koi!!! I'm not sure how long he can hold out for. We think the lump is a tumor? Anyways he hardly gets any food because of this. So I'm guessing he's going to die soon and get put under my cherry tree...And there's not much you can do for a fish. I hate that! Probably one of the hardest animals to treat because there is no way to treat them T.T And my other fish's top fin is ripped off! Only a little strip remains...

We've called the vet for this before and went to the fish store. The fish store gave us some food to help the bladder infection. I'll call the vet's office now

starsky_balto wrote: a big lump. Sounds to me as he have eaten something that have swollen in hes stomach, Never heard a fish with a tumor, anyway i think it could also be Aeromonas infection, There are many kinds of Aeromonas infections but here is two of them. Also try to search on google for pictures and see if it is aeromonas.
Aeromonas infection are probably the most common bacterial disease diagnosed in cultured warmwater fish. Usually, mortality rates are low (10% or less) and losses may occur over a period of time (2 to 3 weeks or longer). In these instances, some factor; usually stress, has caused the fish to become more susceptible to the bacteria. Common sources of stress are poor water quality, overcrowding, or rough handling.
Aeromonas hydrophila is associated with diseases mainly found in fish and amphibians, because these organisms live in aquatic environments. It is linked to a disease found in frogs called red leg, which causes internal, sometimes fatal hemorrhaging. When infected with Aeromonas hydrophila, fish develop ulcers, tail rot, fin rot, and hemorrhagic septicaemia. Hemorrhagic septicaemia causes lesions that lead to scale shedding, hemorrhages in the gills and anal area, ulcers, exophthalmia, and abdominal swelling. Thanks for the info. He/She has been like this for over a year or something. Although the lump was about two months ago.

Very unlikily Charlite, but there it is posible it may. starsky_balto have basicly said all the information, there is little that can be done about this now as by the sound of it, if it is an infection, that it is likily to be too late already. The fish may fight though it but i can not promise that it will.

There's not much that can be done for a fish with swim bladder disease. Have you tried giving it a salt bath? Look it up in a fish manual for instructions. If it doesn't work, you might have to destroy the fish humanely, rather than letting it suffer.
As for the torn fin, your fish might have Fin Rot. It can kill a fish easily, but there's remedies for it that you can buy at the pet shop. Fin Rot killed many of my fish - but one, Fin, survived.

If it doesn't work, you might have to destroy the fish humanely, rather than letting it suffer. Sadly, one of my fish a Shubunkin had Constipation, which has now lead to swim bladder disease. I feel really horrible about it because I believe it was my fault that Coy got constipated in the first place. I fed Coy and his/her bowl buddy Gurgle more Brine Shrimp in a sitting that he/her could handle. The next day I found Coy at the bottom of the 3 gallon bowl not moving very much...I have not fed him/her for about 4 days now but still no improvements. Today he can't swim without leaning on his side. Coy has been my 2nd longest living fish to date and I love him/her dearly, and as Canis Lupus pointed out not much can be done about it. As for your fish I recommend you look up some sites for treatments and pronto! time is running out, or at least contact a vet. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=fi ... gle+Search He's been like this for a long time...Personally sometimes he goes to the bottom yet floats back up. My dad makes jokes about him asking the other fish why the rocks are at the top.

Quote: What?! Salt Bath? A salt bath for a fresh water fish :S does that sound like a good idea? Salt baths can sometimes help but not for a freshwater fish and its easy to overdose and that will kill the fish, To big amounts of salt is going to have the same effect as acid, But also most bacterias that can be found in water is VERY resistant so salt either kill the fish or it doest have any effect at all. ask a vet for some kind of medicine instead.
You can do that - just do it in the right dose. According that fish book I have, anyway. You can't use table salt though because there's too much iodine in it and that will harm the fish.
