Hyena's ruled by Females?

I was watching Fooled By Nature when I heard this. I think it's pretty funny that the group is ruled by us females. That'd be heaven if I was a hyena XD But I still find it funny. In lion prides it ruled by one male and all the females do the work yet in a pack of Hyena's tons of females rule and the males do the work. That'd seriously how it should work with marriages XD

Yep,that's very true,in The Lion King,Shenzi was the head female hyena.

Yeah I knew Shenzi was the head female but didn't know it was because of that. Looks like Disney did their research. Wouldn't kill Universal to do some ><

I think the same thing happens with spiders, only the female eats the male... O.o

It's one of the many reasons why hyenas are my favourite animals. Female hyenas are also 20% bigger than males.

Well, in several animal species females are often larger and stronger than males, and not just Hyenas. Female birds of prey are also stronger and bigger than males.

You mean a black widow spider, am I correct??? Anyway, you're not a hyena, or a spider, or an eagle, you're all humans (I assume...), and in human society, the MALES rule the females!!!!!

The same is also true for MOST other mammals as well (with hyenas being the most obvious exception to the rule)!!!!!

Oh God you did not just say o_O Not ALL males rule the females. It's also the other way around. I know. I've seen it and I ain't lyin'. Some males around here as just like male hyenas. Always succumb to the female's feet of rulin'.

Well, I haven't noticed that before...

Anyway, just because the males are the official ones in charge DOESN'T mean that we can't show the tender-hearted females some extra respect and/or attention every once in a while just to show that we care for them very much, ya' know!!!!!

Ummm, yeah dude, where have you been for the last 50 years? Males are certainly not dominant in the human species. Neither gender is dominant, so get over yourself. Males and females are EQUALS!

And to the actual topic discussion I'd like to add that meercats (sp?) are also ruled by the dominant female. There is a dominant male, but he is chosen by the dominant female and his job is basically to help her have kids and keep the males in line. The dominant female is the big rule in their group.
