Do you think that they are extinct or they're still alive?

(note: if you don't know what a thylacine is, go to wikipedia. Anyaway, it was/is a specie of wolf/tiger like marsupial that is supposed to be extinct, but there are some sightings)

Well, I think there's currently a project to clone them. Their closest living relatives are Tasmanian Devils, believe it or not. So they are not tigers or wolves.

Well, the closest living relatives. Thylacines belonged to an extinct family of carnivores marsupials that occupied the ecological niche of canines in prehistoric Australia. However, of the five species known from the fossil record, only one was found and presumably killed by humans.

I actually think that there are about a handful left in the wild. I've heard about a few cases where they were sighted in the Australia area only, and their footprints are still being found throughout the continent. It's highly unlikely that those footprints are from the times where they were still "alive", since wind and rain and other conditions would have destroyed them by now. They'd have to be fairly new.
