My first Balto fanfic, Fast As A Bullet, is already in progress with part one, Training and Trials. Here's a little snippet from what has already been written:
It was a rather frosty early morning in Nome, and Bullet and his team were getting ready for their first practise session. Balto and Jenna had come to watch their offspring, as well as Dixie and Sylvie. Bullet was still very nervous though, as one dog had still not shown up. It was Alabraster, and Bullet was worried he would not show, having acquired a rather nasty injury in the final Intermediate race, only just finishing before being rendered not able to race in future races for a while. “Where is Alabraster? He knows he’d have to be here early, it’s the first practice session!” Bullet said. “Bullet, calm down, he’ll be here,” Flint reassured him. “He wouldn’t show unless something was wrong,” Vesper added. “But we have to start! As soon as possible, too! Argh, where is he?!” Bullet demanded. “We don’t know Bullet, and you better calm down before you have a heart attack!” Benji advised him. “Yeah, you’re acting like you’ve got a flea infestation or something,” Vesper said. “Hey!” Flea piped up. “Oh. Right, forgot. Well – you know what I mean, Bul!” Their musher approached without Alabraster. “Wonder what’s going on there,” Balto murmured. He walked towards his son. “Hi Dad…” Bullet said. “Son, I have to be frank. You’re acting like a flea. Oh, sorry,” Balto apologised, after Flea gave him a dirty look. “But seriously, it isn’t going to help.” “Dad, I can’t help it. It’s just that… we’re in the Championship season! Yes!” Bullet said excitedly. “You won’t be if you use all of your energy for talking,” Vesper teased. Bullet softly growled. “Now now Vesper, be nice to your brother. You won’t be either if you keep it up,” Jenna joked. Bullet sniggered at the frowning Vesper. “Everyone, Alabraster isn’t going to be competing this season. I’ve got a replacement, so I’ll go fetch her,” the musher said, and he waked away. “Her?” Nit exclaimed. “Are we having another girl on the team? Oh goody!” “Don’t go getting any ideas Nit,” Flint warned. “I just hope she isn’t an Elysium clone.” “What, pure-bred mania? I’m actually surprised she doesn’t jeer about the… uh… wolf thing, Flint,” Vesper said. “I’d rather keep it that way after last year,” Flint murmured. “Oh come on Flinty, you can do better than her. Ahhh, you gotta go out on the weekend with me one night Flint, there’s hordes of them looking for their ‘handsome prince’… which in most cases is me!” Bullet exclaimed proudly. “What are you talking about, Bullet? You’ve never had a girlfriend,” Jenna said. Vesper sniggered as Bullet stood in silence. Ruined by his mother… how embarrassing, he thought. “Oh, here comes the musher again. Better back up and give you some space. Good luck son,” Balto said. Bullet didn’t respond. Balto and Jenna went back to their previous observatory point. The musher walked up to them with a beautiful black and white Alaskan Malamute beside him. She had black around her cobalt blue eyes, was rather muscular, and had soft thick fur and a flowy tail. She had Jenna’s leg markings – black that turned to white not far down. “Everyone, I’d like you to meet Cobalt. She comes from Anchorage and is the daughter of a three-time Golden Collar winner, and she’ll be replacing Alabraster for the season. We’re just about ready, need to grab some supplies first though,” the musher said, and went off to get his things. Cobalt shyly walked up to the team. Bullet hadn’t seen another dog like her – she just had this mysterious yet breathtaking aura around her, it seemed. He couldn’t stop himself from looking at her. “Hi…” she began.
And there you have it, a peek into my work.
