Firstly, NO FLAMING.
Just give your opinion, if someone disagrees, constructively explain your opinion. Don't get into a war over it - it's NOT worth it. Any arguing will result in me asking a mod to lock it. ;)

How do you feel about dressing dogs up?

By this I mean both in little outfits made specially for them and as in the rain-jackets and bandanas and the like.

Personally, I don't agree with the idea of dressing dogs in little sweaters and baby outfits and that sort of thing. Even with small toy dogs. Not only do they look ridiculous but I just don't think it's right. Dogs aren't babies or dolls. They're not accessories.

Bandanas I can cope with. Fancy collars are ok. Dogs are supposed to have collars and if people choose to buy expensive ones with diamonds then as long as they're comfortable and pratical for the dog then so be it. This similar with the coats that they make for Greyhounds and terriers that keep them both warm and dry.

It's just the little sweaters and shoes and things that they make that I can't stand.

Fancy Collars, Bandanas, stuff like that is okay. I mean when we take my Toy Poodles to the vet's office in the winter give them a sweater to keep warm but that's about it.

I pretty much have to agree with you. Bandanas, neck accessories etc are fine. I also don't have a problem with sweaters IF they're worn for a reason (e.g for a hairless dog if it's cold, for a dog with skin problems if it's sunny etc.), but to make them look pretty? No.
Luckily, none of the Lab owners I've met have attempted to put a raincoat on their dog. I hope it stays like that.
It's like me putting a woolly/fluffy jacket on my Golden. Why?

Neckwear like collars and bandanas are ok for me, but outfits disgust me.D: I mean dogs are not toys and they look cute even without those filthy outfits.): But if a dog likes to be dressed up then its fine I guess.

I agree with him then. We should just ttreat dogs like dogs...not bad,but good and equal.

I agree, sweaters and dresses and shorts and stuff like that shouldn't be put on dogs. To me, it looks as if people treat them like dolls. I'm fine with collars, bandannas and hats, but clothes make them look spoiled. I have to put a sweater on my chihuahua because it can get really cold where I live, but only in the winter. Still, I don't know why I keep asking my mom for those doggie clothes in S-mart. XP Yeah, they are cute, I guess it's because I LOVE cute things.

I think dogs look stupid in clothes. I only sometimes dress my dogs up fer holloween. But theres nothing wrong with doing it. In winter some dogs need doggy jackets er sweaters.

I just dont like it mainly cause they look ridiculous, I cant help but think that people who put sweaters, hair styles and all that on their dogs just think of their dogs as fashion accesories and not pets

I guess this is a pretty complicated situation. For example, the special booties they make for rescue dogs are all but essential, so I definitely approve of those. I'd probably even help make some if I had the time and knew where to send them. raincoats are probably a good idea too, for practicality and health reasons. On a short-haired dog, they could prevent a cold or even hypothermia on a long rainy walk (same goes for sweaters and such on a cold day). And on a long-haired dog they prevent splatters all over the house once the dog returns from said walk. As for purely decorative outfits, I'm against them if the dog is. Bandannas and decorative collars are OK, although the expenses some people go to on the collars (especially celebs) are just crazy. Other than that I think they're just a nuisance to the dog if the dog doesn't want to wear them. But if the dog likes them, what the heck?

And some dogs have short hair so they still need something extra. We have a sweater for our little dog, but my sister's picked it out.
