Really? What's the story with that?
I'll tell you. It takes place in England nearly one thousand years ago, at the time when England was ruled by the Anglo-Saxons.
In 1064, a duke named Harold was shipwrecked off the coast of Normandy in northern France. Harold was a very
important person, so important that he was next in line to be King of England after the current King (Edward the Confessor) died.
Harold was rescued by Duke William of Normandy, who also had a strong claim the England's throne. In return for rescuing Harold, William made him swear (on the bones of saints) that when Edward snuffed it, he would step aside and let William take the throne.
Two years later, in 1066, Edward died. Before he died, he made Harold his successsor. Harold took the throne for himself, despite his promise to William. As you can probably guess, William was enraged, and threatened to invade England.
Harold prepared for the invasion, and waited on the shores of southern England all summer. But, due to the weather, William could not sail across the Channel.
Harold then had to go up north to Yorkshire to fight off a Viking invasion(He won!)
Just as they were heading home, the winds changed and William could finally cross the Channel.
Harold rushed back down South, and at a place called Hastings, the Saxons fought against the Normans (the French).
The Normans were losing at first, but due to William's
quick timing and thinking, they finally defeated the Saxons.
And that's the story, although of course, I've only
scratched the surface.
(Some say that Harold was killed by an arrow in his eye!
