All right, this has bothered me for a long time.

You cannot copyright names, correct? Than tell me, you people. Why do you freak out when someone has a character with the same name as yours?

Now, if it was something less popular, I'd understand. But, you can't sue them or anything for it... So where's the point in ranting and raving to them? There isn't one.

I'll give you an example on what you should do. Wolftrick had met me/saw me in the shout box, and a day later came up with a character named "Kirala". I saw this, and it occured to me that only one character was changed from my name. So, I asked her to change it to avoid someone who would freak out about it (I did this politely), and she happily agreed. Is that so hard, to say, "hey, can you change ...'s name? Because ..."

Names themselves can't be copyrighted, we all know that. Take Shadowcraft and his character Zephyr (sp?), someone charged him saying "THAT'S MY CHARACTER >:[!" That's not going to do anyone any good at all... None. Might get you banned, yes, but it also gains you some enemies.

But, I'm sick of people ranting and raving about that's "their" character. Popular names will be used more than once. Like the name "Cat" or "Amaya". Those won't be 'special' names you made yourself. This is a huge world, other people will have that idea. So jeez, try to be nice about it. If it's a name that's rarely/never used, than ask them to change the name POLITELY, and everything will be okay. If they deny to change it, then, I guess there's more than one name like that.

Fan Characters

Okay, we all sorted out the copyright fields earlier, on the wolf form (not the character itself, but the one you made) is copyright to you. The name? No.

Other people may like that show, as well, and like wolves too. So what do they do? They're going to make fan characters! So, when a person sees this, they're going to go to the mods saying it was stolen.

No, fan characters can be made more than once. -_- This is again something with "you're not the only one to come up with that idea".

But, all this whining 'bends' me. You people have to realize that you're not the only person with those ideas. It's not hard to have a mix-up with someone else, and you certainly cannot copyright names or expect you to be the only person on a website with a fan character.

Okay, you're the first on ONE site to have a fan-character idea. Someone else does it. Does that give you the right to report for theft? No. It does not. It is a fan character, not your character.

Take the more used example. Catwhohas14tails and Kiona. Kiona is copyrighted to Cat, yet the unnamed pup in the movie is copyright Universal Studios. Anyone can make the red-faced pup as their own, yet if it resembles Kiona to a great extent they have stolen it from Cat. But, Cat cannot rave because a lot of people make that fan-character, just because she made one.

So, my points have been expressed.

I agree. I mean if somebody makes a character with the same name as your character and it's a rare name AND the character looks kinda like yours you have a right to be upset but don't totally flame them. Ask them to change the name. If it has the same looks and name read the description to see if they drew your character for a surprise for you. I've seen somebody flame another person out because they drew a wolf with the same name and looks but actually they just drew it for a surprise and had the copyrights in the description.

yeah, I can't copyright Silver because It isn't exactly the most original name ever created.

And I too must confess that I have a character named Zephyr

But I don't got galivanting around, claiming that he's original. Hell, I let people use my character Silver in their fan fics.

Blaze is a popular name. One of mine chars is called Blaze. When I saw someone with the same name I said:

Hey, our chars have the same name. This rp's gonna be confussing. :lol:

But this is wrong:

*Le gasp* You nicked my Chars name!! Give it back it's (C) to ME!! :evil:

Yeah, I agree 100%, there no need for all that :roll:

hey, great rant, yes i have seen this before. if your going to pick a popular name , your taking the chance that somebody else has already named one of their rp characters after yours. its mindlessly stupid and annoying.

Ha, yeah. I don't think Yupik is a common name for a fan char. Now i don't mind, cuz most of my chars have common names. But there are a few like: Minstral, Tusken, Zione. And you see the cute little guy on meh avee? His names Cyrus(C) and his my fav. i dought people will commonly use those names.

Spirit- I know you created the name XD But once I saw an intresting name and wanted to use it. The name was unfortunetly WyvERN. I didn't use it cuz it was simalar to yours.

Ah ha, yes I saw that happen. I was in TLK box when I saw some one change thier name to ~Shadowcraft~ I know the users origanal name, but I will not mention names
