Don't you hate it when fan fictions are just a song?(written by someone else, of course ><) I mean, I like some fan fictions with pieces of songs in them (ex: a verse of a song that goes with what's happening), but don't you think that lyrics to a copywrighted song that some of us know is a waste of space?

And then the person who "writes" this song says, "Okay, this is how he feels about her" and there's just lyrics for an already written song! Can't they write their own songs? Or even better, write and actual fanfic about the couple? It would be much better than reading lyrics to a song.

Don't get me wrong, you can write songs about your characters and their love and other things! Just don't look up lyrics to a song and copy and paste them to a fanfic page and type up a one sentence summary about "who loves who". That, in my opinion, is a waste of space.

I totally agree. I mean, a verse or two is fine, but just copy and pasting someone else's song is as bad as being an art thief.

Exactly! It's both annoying and thieft. >< I hate it when people do that. Maybe it should be a rule not to post just songs written by someone else (you have to have some verses in a fanfic, and put copywrights to the singer and /or writer)

You have a point, but I think it's a waste of space to put something that people already know about (what they've heard on the radio, ect...). But that's your opinion, and you can say whatever you want to say.

I think the reason why steet put fanfics on the site was so fans could be creative with their fictional writing. I seriously don't see how posting someone else's song and virtually nothing else, could be creative. I mean, it's fine if you post a song in a very long fanfic, because most of the content is yours, but otherwise...

I must confess, I've done this too in my fics (only two though). However, I fixed the song with the plot because it was playing in the background as my characters interacted...

does that count?




But staying on topic, I have to say that re-reading the lyrics of a song in a story is not exactly my idea of a good read.

Learn to write something more original than cutting and pasting lyrics into a story. It'll save you ridicule later on.

Silver-> That's fine, in my opinion. As long as you don't just post the song without any story or dialogue with characters. Putting verses in with the fanfic is perfecly fine with me ^^ I might even write a fic with verses from songs in it, but I'd stick to the plot and use dialogue and put in a story to it

all i have to say is, YES, YES,YES! apri-werewolf, yes. thank you for telling this to the baltosource community, maybe this will encourage them to make up their own songs. ^^

Cool But I meant putting only a song and no other text (a story, ect...) is a waste, not putting song verses in a story! (I actually quite like those stories with verses in them, it sets a mood )
