This is my first rant ever...

I would like to point something out that has been irking me out for awhile now. In the sections about movies and books (their proper names being "books", "films/series", and "animations/cartoons") people post topics containing something like this:

Quote:
Have u ever heard of *insert name of book/movie/show here*...It wuz awusome!!

Only like one or two sentences, no depth or information at all. They don't even take the time to tell us the author of the book (or the makers of the movie or show) or a short plot summary to tell us what it's about so we can get a bit more interested in it.

People may say that you don't have enough time to make a detailed topic. But...you know what, if you're not going to take the time to make it a good topic then what's the point in making it? And besides, it won't take that long to make a decent topic about a movie/show/book. They don't even take the time to make sure that they have everything spelled correctly (I know some minor typos are acceptable...but you should at least try and fix them...)

I found this topic by Mayahuskee to be a good example of a detailed topic:
viewtopic.php?t=14914

I just wish that people would put more effort in making a topic. You can't just write one badly spelled sentence and call it an essay (or even a fanfic for that matter), you have to write more than that...

Love me, Hate me, eat me, whatever...but I am still free to rant

Yeah, I see what you mean. Same with pointless replies too. People will say stuff like, "Nope never seen it." Okay, then why bother replying?

Yes, another good topic to bring upon this rant. pointless replies/topics. I've seen people even puting emoticons as a reply? Hmmm I wonder what its suppost to mean. Or did they have no time. If you don't have anytime to make the topic with supporting details of the idea of it, why make it. Havn't people ever thought that if they make a careless sentence as a topic with no detail or conversation starters, people will NOT reply to them? Good rant, especially for your first. It was well stated. ;]

GAH. I hate that. xD When I make a post there, I try to come up with more (links or something) or just don't make a topic. It's really not that hard! xD

That doesn't bother me as long as they add more to it.

Oftentimes, they don't.

I do try to make a decent-length post when I make a thread though.

Heck yes! :] Muh topic rawks. I tried to put some information - which I could have found more (and I might just do that). I am also annoyed by these topics. They say very little, and tell nothing. I tried to put enough information to get people interesting in the topic I made. I mean, when I go to read a topic, then I like to know something about it. Tibby can also make good topics that give you information on the books or such (she may even post spoilers. ;]). If you are going to bother posting about a book, tell us about it! Get people interested. Sometimes titles aren't enough, or disleading. I know there is always our good friend "Google" but sometimes you cannot find a book by simply typing in the title. Sometimes you need just a little more. I mean, can't they at least also include the Author? I see MANY of these in the book section. Some of them have it, but a lot just say "Have you seen this book??" Or something like that. Its really pathetic.

And it also bothers me when people just post useless comments saying "no i have not seen this." And thats it. If you are going to post something like that, add to it. "I ahve not seen this book, who is the Author? Can you tell me where I can find out more about it?" Or something like that. Just a little more than those useless comments. DX I really hate that.

Who actually reads through a post that big though? A good 3-5 sentences should be the norm.

I think that young kids actually don't know how to argument, how to give their opinion...They know they liked something, but just can't describe why.

Or, they know but don't make the effort to give their opinion because all they want is answers from other people on the subject.

I believe THIS is the case for most people. Because I know a few people there are most definately not just young kids. I dont see why people can't take the time to at least post a little about it.

I do think some rule should be made about this. A paragraph (3-5 sentences) should be the minimum for posting a topic in the Books, Movies, TV, ect.. which ever sections! I think this would help with the useless topics that people post, along with some of the useless posts people make on them.

Yes, I agree a rule should be created to try and stop some useless posts from happening...This rule would make people actually have to try and make a topic instead of just slapping some junk together (like the example I "quoted" in my previous topic).

Yes, I agree with 100% about this. I mean...three sentences is not even that much but, it's better than one. I think this should indeed be a rule. There's something else about people who make these topics. They make me laugh because they say they are absolutely passionate about whatever it is but, usually, someone who is fascinated by something will want to display how much they know about it...OH well..
