Species: Cat
Breed: Domestic Shorthair
Gender: Male
Mate: None
Babies: None
Mother: Unknown
Father: Unknown
Litters: 0
Extra: I got Salem after my cat, Shushy, passed away. I got him at an animal rescue shelter. He was abandoned by his owner, and him and his siblings were dumped in the garbage to die. Luckily, the kittens were found and were taken to the animal shelter. He was only 5 weeks old, and had no mother. He had to eat kitten food at a really early age. He still has no idea how to suckle. So when he drinks he has to slurp. He has lost his mother, to renew her memories he suckles on a pillow. He has no record of his brothers/ sisters, mother, father, owner(s), or being dumped in the garbage. He thinks he's a human, and that I'm his sister/ mother, and sleeps with me everynight I have my door opened.

Name: Mouse

Extra: Mouse came home to us in October 21 2002-2003? (No she's not dead, but I just can't remember the year we got her.) My father used to work for the same animal shelter where I got Salem. He always loved to visit the cats, in every room. When he was done with the 2 cat rooms, he moved on to the last room, that was the room where they put the cats who were taking up space, they have been their longer than most. And it was the cats who were getting ready to get put to sleep. =[ I know its unfair but so many animals come into that shelter. He was just about to leave when he noticed a cat that he never saw there. He called to his friend who worked their, and asked how long that cat had been there. She replied a few weeks. She has only 5 days until she gets put to sleep to make more room. My father asked to hold her. She came out of the cage immediatly, and rubbed up on his head and shoulders. She was purring so much. My dad looked into her green eyes. He thought they looked beautiful untop of her smokey grey fur. He couldn't resist but melting into them. In a way, we saved Mouse. She is now 11 and living strong and happy with her family. Although she was so used to Shushy, that when he died she was heart broken. But she seems to tolerate Salem. But she knows he's not her best friend. She finds him annoying mostly, but will occasionaly cuddle with him. Maybe it brings back the memories of the days when her and Shushy would cuddle together.

Extra: Shushy came to me when I was only 4. He was a smalle kitten of maybe 7 months of age. We were best friends ever since we looked at each other. He slept with me every night. Even when I would have my door closed, he would open it. It was a mystery how he did this, but he got it done. He would walk on my back every night. This is how I could tell he would sleep with me. If I came out of the shower or pool, he would run over to my and start licking and grooming my hair. Their were so many good times I had with him, I can't even explain. I was the only one who could pick him up. If he hissed at me, I would hiss back, and then he would apologize by rubbing his head on mine. We communicated in ways I couldn't even explain. I was the only one who could kiss his nose. He loved to sleep with me when I wasn't feeling good. And sometimes we were sick together, we were happy, sad, and scared together. He was my half. He was young enough to be my little brother. And that's what I took him for, not a cat, not a pet, but a member of my family. I loved that cat with all my life. When he was only 7, he passed away to heart failure. He didn't want to leave. He would cry out for me. I know this because moments before he died, I was in the bathroom, and unreachable. He was suppost to pass away under my bed, but he struggled into the hallway by my bedroom door to find me. He wanted me to be the last thing he saw before he died. And I just had to know this. It was a feeling I could never explain. For about a month after that, mostly the whole family could feel is energy. Sometimes I wish I still could, but now I'm confident that my best friend is now resting in peace.
