in England there are 390,000 people who made their own religion based on the Jedi code and no this is not a farce. I get star wars fandom but is this going to far they are trying to get the UN to recognize it

Ah yes, I've heard of this. No, it's not the doing of really really really die-hard Stars Wars fans. It's to do with a survey that came out a couple of years ago (I can't remember what it was exactly) that asked questions about your household. One of the questions asked about your religion, and some people either didn't have a religion or felt it was too private. Either way, just to fill empty space, they put in 'Jedi.' Because so many people did this, it became an official religion, because it gained more than enough 'supporters.'

Too far? Tell me, what's so bad about it? Thinking before acting, helping others, doing no harm. And it's way easier than a 'real' religion.

If you want it that way... I try to live after the Jedi Codex. At least after some of the rules :P

yeah but realize Star Wars is a made up universe with some historical influences. It should remain that way I love star wars I buy as many of the action figures as I can but I don't let it run my life

Well to begin with, it has very few established rules. And sometimes human reasoning can lead to a flawed descision where instinct or faith would have produced a better result. And the manner of spirituality which the Jedi concept portrays is exactly the sort of thing which has landed some people on death row for unspeakable crimes. I know it sounds silly because Star Wars is just harmless fantasy, but that's just what Sean Seller used to say about D&D.

Exactly that's why you have to THINK. Many people just act, and do not think about it. And IF they think they think about their own wellfare.

Excuse me, WHAT?
The Jedi 'Religion' surely does not portray anything like that. And even if this is true, then what crimes are done for real religions? Maybe you are talking about the Sith Codec, but THIS what you are saying there, is NOT the way of the Jedi :P
Jedi:
There is no emotion; there is peace.
There is no ignorance; there is knowledge.
There is no passion; there is serenity.
There is no death; there is the Force.

Sith:
Peace is a lie, there is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, I gain victory.
Through victory, my chains are broken.
The Force shall free me.

Well, reasoning IS thinking, so I'm not sure how your point about thought vs. immediate action argues mine. And of course the Jedi coe does not promote murder itself. But some of the concepts it portrays, like meditation, contact with the dead, and developing psychic powers, have been known o lead certain people down the wong path. Besides, don't the worst Sith start off as Jedi? As for some of the parts of the Jedi code, like supressing emotion, they're just plain nuts. We humans are emotional beings, and were always designed to be so. Supressing emotions, or trying to pretend they are not there, is like dening the existence of a pack on your back which someone is continually filling with rocks. Emotions are a good thing, even a vital thing. Many of the gratest things that have ever been done were fueled by emotion. Weren't the Americans angry when they started preparing for theRevolutionary War? Humans cannot truly live without emotions, and by duly harnessing them we can do many great things. The key to be sure it is you who are using your emotions, and not the other way around.[/i]

Well do you think the Shao Lin monks are evil? You can call them the Jedi of the world. They have:
-meditation
-Master - "Padawan" system
-fight training
-they get physical power (they do things, normal people never could do. If you can see something about them in TV or where ever.. watch it)
Hmm Contact to the dead... don't you think that Christianas have some kind of that too? They pray to their god and sometimes (for example when someone died) to tell them whatsoever.
Emotions:
Yeah, and what bad things have been done while being in an emotional rage?
For example a pupil which goes into his school and shoots everyone. Is that a good thing?
Yeah maybe we are designed for that, but that does not mean we have to be that way. Weapons are designed to kill, but we try to use them do do not so.
But tright: we can't live without emotions, thats why the Jedi filter out the good ones: for example peace.
And right, Siths starts off as Jedi, but all of them just change the sides, because they were impatient. They did not want to wait to reach their goal. (Becomming strong).

@ Squival: Hey hey: nothing against the pink unicorn... it is the Lord of my life :P *j/k*

First, I do not consider Shao Lin monks evil as such, although I do believe they are somewhat misguided. Personal tutoring, which is pretty much what the Master-Padawan system is, is perfectly fine by me. In fact, I don't want to think about where I'd be without it. And contact with the dead? That is something no true Christian does. Ever. God is not dead.

Second, all the cases you have pointed out when it comes to unleashed anger are more proof of what I have said. People who do that sort of thing are people who lose sight of the fact that e must control our emotions, instead of allowing them to control us. Denying their existence is no soultion. In fact, it only makes us more vulnerable.

Since religion is in a way science-fiction, it is no suprise science-fiction eventually made the leap to religion...
By the way, if you think people following Jedi-religion is weird, try and remember that the inventor of the mucho popular 'religion' Scientology was... a science-fiction writer.

Who denys the existance? Noone. If you would know a bit more about Jedi, you would know THAT they control their emotions and do not deny them.
