Author: Tibb_wolf
Category: Slightly Controversal
Rating: PG-13
Summary: Kodi, Dusty and Kirby have been friends for a long time. They love haning out together and enjoy eachother's company. But they soon find out that no one is safe from rumors when a group of dogs start to believe there is a love triangle between Dusy, Kodi and Kriby. Can they prove the rumors to be false, or will it haunt them for the rest of their lives?
Notes: I honestly don't know where I came up for the idea for this fanfic. It was just one of those random things. And I think it's pretty original, so that's good.

Chapter One
A red husky male sat beside his two best friends, watching the moon swallow up the sun over the calm ocean. He glanced at the gray female on his right and the large creamy tan male on his left, smiling. There was no where he would rather be than with them.
Ever since the red husky ad made it on the mail team, he, Kirby and Dusty became close friends. Most times when they were not on a run, the three of them were together – sometimes with Ralph, another member of the mail team.
As the sun got lower and the moon got higher, colors of pink and purple danced across the sea like the aurora borealis danced across the sky. It was a breathtaking sight to take in.
The farther the sun sank, the cooler the air got. After a few long minutes, the red husky felt the female to his right shiver slightly. Chuckling softly, he moved a little closer, sharing his body heat with her. She smiled slightly and moved a bit closer as well, leaning into him.
Kirby glanced over at the two and laughed quietly, gazing back out at the ocean as the last few rays of light disappeared over the horizon.
“What do you say we go to the boiler room for a bit, guys?” the red husky asked.
Dusty nodded. “Sounds good to me, Kodi.”
Kodi looked over at Kirby, who nodded, laughing quietly again, standing to his paws. The other two huskies followed lead.
Walking side-by-side, the three friends made their way toward the small town of Nome. They glanced around the empty streets. It seemed all the town dogs were already at the boiler room.
Picking up the pace to try and chase the cold away, Kodi, Kirby and Dusty spotted Ralph ambling towards them.
“Hey Ralphie boy,” Kirby laughed, using his playful nickname for his friend.
Ralph chuckled. “Heading over to the boiler room?” he asked, walking next to Dusty.
Kodi nodded. “Are you?”
The large grayish husky smiled. “What do you think?”
Dusty laughed and nudged him playfully. “And you think you can tag along with us?” she questioned, chuckling.
“Of course,” he told his three friends, nodding.
The four of them laughed, walking into the boiler room, looking around at all the dogs already there. The other two dogs on the mail team - Rok and Sem - were laying by a brown chow, laughing. Kodi’s mother and father were next to his sister Saba, talking quietly.
Choosing a less crowed area, the four huskies sat down, glancing at a group of females whispering among themselves. Kodi cocked his head and shook it, not thinking anything of what the females where talking about.
As the minutes passed the boiler room start to empty slowly. The group of females continued talking in the corner among themselves, every few seconds looking discreetly over at Kodi, Kirby and Dusty while snickering.
“I think it’s about time I go home,” Ralph told his friends, yawning. “I'll see you guys tomorrow.”
The three said their good-buys as their friend walked away.
Resting herself comfortably between Kodi and Kirby, Dusty called one of the females over. “Why don’t you share whatever you’re talking about with us,” she said.
A cream colored husky with a pink collar walked over, a small glare in her blue eyes. “Now why would we want to share our conversation with the likes of you three?”
Dusty roller her eyes. “Because it’s probably about us.”
“You’re right,” the female said. “It is about you. Now go back to being a loser so we can get back to our conversation.”
With a rude laugh, she turned back to her group of friends, laughing.
The gray female growled. “That bit--”
“Dusty,” Kodi said, his voice calm. “Just ignore her. Let her have her fun.”
Kirby nodded. “She isn’t worth it.”
Dusty sighed, glaring at the group of females. After a few minutes of silence, she nodded with another sigh. Glancing around the boiler room, she realized how empty it had gotten.
“What do you say we head back home?” Dusty asked her two friends.
The two males looked at each other and nodded.
“Why not,” Kirby said as Kodi stood up. Following his lead, Kirby did too.
As the three walked toward the door, they heard the group of females talking louder, plaintively using their names. Kodi had to restrain himself from spinning around and confronting the group.
Once the three huskies left the boiler room, Kirby let out a huge sigh, turning to look at his companions.
“What do you think that was all about?” he asked, a small amount of anger still glittering in his dark eyes.
Kodi shrugged, sitting down in the snow. “Who knows. Probably just some gossip they heard about. They were being their normal annoying selves.”
“But not,” Dusty commented, glaring back at the boiler room. “They were ten times worse then usual.”
The large creamy tan husky nodded. “I guess there is nothing we can do, though.”
Slowly nodding, Kodi stood back to his paws, turning around. Glancing after him, Kirby and Dusty followed.
Kodi looked back and laughed as his friends’ paws crunched in the snow where as his hardly made a sound. He turned back front, quickening his pace slightly as they got closer to the warm beds that awaited them.
Creaking open the door carefully so as to not wake their owner, the three dogs padded over to their beds. Curling up in them, the three huskies placed their tail over their muzzle, smiling.
“Night guys,” Kodi said, shutting his eyes.
“You, too, Kodi,” Kirby said. “And you, Dusty.”
Dusty made a muffled grunt in response as she drifted off to sleep.
It didn’t take long for them to fall asleep, the strange conversation of the group of females put out of their minds for a few pleasant hours as sleep took total control over them.

w00/ Here be chapter two!
Chapter Two
Opening his eyes slowly, Kodi looked over at the two beds next to him. One, Dusty’s bed, was all ready empty. Kirby was still sleeping soundly to his left.
“Hey Kirb,” Kodi laughed, causing the larger husky to jump with surprise. “It’s time to wake up.”
The creamy tan male slowly rose to his paws and shook himself. “Yet you’re still in that bed of your’s, huh?”
Kodi chuckled, leaping out of his bed. “Looks to me that you’re the only one in a bed,” he said, looking around. “Everyone else has been up for a while.”
Kirby chuckled. “Very funny Kodi,” he said, standing to his paws. Walking over to Kodi, he nudged him playfully. The red male laughed and gently pushed him back.
Dusty poked her head in the door and shoot it, smiling. “What are you boys doing?” she asked them, giggling, her head to the side slightly.
The two males shrugged and walked up to her, giving her a playful shove.
“What was that for?” she asked, pushing her two friends gently.
Kodi smiled. “You looked left out.”
Dusty slowly nodded, pretending to be confused. She laughed softly and turned slightly. “And how would you like to eat my dust?” she asked.
He cocked his head. “What?”
The female turned, laughing, running down the street. Chuckling, Kodi ran after her, his tail wagging loosely behind him.
“You don’t think you can catch me, do you?” Dusty called back from ahead.
The muscular red husky forced her paws to move faster. It felt like he was floating over the ground, his paws barley touching the street.
They ran until they reached the shore of the sea. Laughing, the two collapsed in the sand. Dusty looked into her friend’s eyes briefly then looked away. Kodi averted his gaze as well, smiling slightly.
“Well look who it is,” a voice sneered.
Kodi and Dusty snapped their head up, glaring at the cream colored female.
“Oh great,” Dusty said sarcastically. “Here’s the parasite, come to leech off of our lives.”
The red male glanced at her out of the corner of his eyes. Returning his attention back to the other female, he rolled his eyes slightly. “What do you want Cas?” he asked.
Cas grinned. “Oh, just wondering where the third part of your triangle is.”
“Third part to what triangle?” Dusty growled, standing to her paws.
The cream husky laughed, her voice anything but friendly. “Don’t play dumb with me. You know very well what I'm talking about.”
Kodi quickly stood to his paws, stepping slightly in front of Dusty. “Actually we don’t.”
Cas sighed. “If you are going to play dumb, I guess I'll just have to tell you,” she told them, rolling her eyes. “We all know that you love Dusty,” she said, looking at Kodi. “But you also love Kirby. And Dusty,” Cas growled slightly, “you love Kodi, but don’t quite love Kirby.”
Kodi and Dusty exchanged glances, taken aback.
“I… I don’t feel that way about Dusty,” Kodi said, still shocked at what Cas had just said. “And I most defiantly don’t feel that way about Kirby.”
Dusty nodded vigorously, stepping up right beside her friend, glancing at him. “And I don’t love Kodi. He’s just my friend!” She glared at the cream husky.
A harsh laugh met their ears. “Sure. Whatever you say then,” Cas said, turning around. Glancing over her left shoulder, she added, “You can try and hide the truth, but it won’t work.”
The two friends watched as the female walked away, speechless. Looking at each other, Kodi shook his head, still slightly confused about what Cas said.
“What on earth would make the town dogs think… that… of all things?” he asked her.
Dusty snorted. “I'll show that bitch a thing or two,” she growled, half to herself. “Who is she to say that you’re…”
The red husky sighed. “We know I'm not, Dust. What she says doesn’t matter. You know that she’ll do anything for attention.
She nodded slowly, looking away.
“Let’s just go home,” Kodi said, nudging her slightly.
Dusty forced a smile and followed her friend away from the vast sea back into the small town.
As they walked up to the door of their owner’s house, Kirby walked out. Sitting in front of them, he cocked his head slightly.
“What with the long faces?” he asked, noticing their worried looks.
Kodi shook his head slightly. “It’s nothing Kirb.”
The gray female looked at Kodi. “He should know. It is about him, too.”
Kirby looked from his two friends, a look of confusion crossing his face. “What are you guys talking about?”
“I really didn’t want to tell you,” Kodi started. “It’s not really even important. Dumb is what it is.” He sighed, looking at Dusty, who nodded. “Today we had a… oh so wonderful encounter with Cas. And it just so happens tat we found out what they were talking about last night.”
Dusty looked at him. “Go on. Tell him what it was about.”
Kodi glared at her, his eyes silencing the female. “Cas told us about a lovely little rumor a few of the town dogs believe about us.” He sighed again, sitting down. “Apparently they believe we are involved in a love triangle. Cas made dogs believe that Dusty and I love each other. And… that I have those same feelings for you.”
Kirby looked at him, shock in his eyes. He glanced at Dusty, who held his gaze for a few moments before looking away. “How…? Where…?”
The red husky shook his head. “Just something she came up with to get more attention then she all ready gets.”
He nodded, opening his mouth to say something, but shut it when no words came.
The three friends sat like that for a few minutes. An awkward silence hung over them like fog over the ground.
“Well…” Dusty chuckled nervously, trying to break the silence. “What do you two say we… go back out by the ocean?” She looked to Kodi. “Or maybe we could go visit your dad and Boris?”
Kodi laughed. “Sounds like a plan to me,” he said. “But Boris is probably with Stella.”
“Sounds like fun,” Kirby nodded. “I'm always ready for a visit with Nome’s number one hero. One of the most fun things to do around here.”
Dusty laughed. “Sounds like we are doing that, then.”
The three friends walked off toward Balto’s boat, a washed up ship on the shore outside of Nome. Kodi had been there a ton of times since he was a young pup. After he met Dusty and Kirby, they started to come with him to visit the town hero.
“We’ll just have to be back around noon or so,” Kodi reminded them, looking up into the sky, measuring where the sun was.
Dusty and Kirby nodded, laughing.
“You just couldn’t bear to make Mister Simpson wait a minute longer than her all ready would have to, huh?” Dusty chuckled, giving Kodi a side-long glance.
The red husky playfully nudged her, but didn’t reply.
After only a few minutes, they arrived at the old boat. Kirby wagged his tail as Kodi jumped onto the lowest part of the deck.
“Dad!” he called. “Hey Dad, it’s me. Dusty and Kirby are with me, too!”
A chuckle from behind caused the three friends to spin around. “I see that,” Balto said, smiling. He looked over his shoulder and nodded toward Nome. “I was just visiting your mother.”
Kodi laughed. “You always go visiting Mom,” he teased.
The wolf/dog laughed again. “Well, she is my mate. And one day you’ll understand that bond.”
Kirby laughed, snorting slightly. “That’ll totally be the day,” he chuckled.
The red husky chuckled, embarrassed. He glanced at his father, who just smiled and shook his head slightly. Dusty giggled pushing Kodi.
“So where is your next mail run to?” the wolf/dog asked.
The three friends shrugged, looking to each other.
“Probably White Mountain,” Kodi commented. He looked around the ship. “Boris is with Stella, huh?”
Balto nodded. “When isn’t he now?”
Kodi looked up into the sky, noting where the sun was. “We’ve got to head back to town now Dad,” Kodi told his father, giving him a loving nuzzle.
“I'll see you all latter, then,” he laughed, returning the nuzzle.
The three friends walked down the old plank onto the sandy ground, turning themselves towards Nome. Kodi took the lead by a step and wagged his tail slightly, laughing. Dusty quickened her pace so she could walk right beside him, Kirby doing the same. Giggling, the gray female pushed Kodi into Kirby.
Grinning, Kodi started to slowly run, clearly signaling to his two friends to do the same. Wagging their tails more, the other two huskies ran after him.
After only a few minutes, the three huskies arrived outside their owner’s home. Rok, Sem and Ralph were all sitting around the dog sled, waiting to be hooked up.
“Well look who decided to join us,” Ralph teased, laughing as Kodi, Dusty and Kirby walked to their places.
Rok and Sem chuckled in agreement, nodding to themselves.
Kodi shook his head, a smile in his eyes. “At least we are in our places,” he told the other three, motioning to Dusty and Kirby.
Getting the hint, the remaining team members walked to their spots on the line. Kodi perked up his ears and turned his head at the sound of a door opening then closing, followed by footsteps on the snowy ground. A young man walked over to the dogs, patting each one of the head before attaching them to the line.
“Let’s go get the mail, team,” he said. “Hike!”
Wagging their tails joyously, Kodi led the team to the small post office. He did not even have to listen to his musher’s commands to know where to turn.
Once he knew the arrived, Kodi stopped, his tail still wagging.
“Good boy,” the young man laughed, walking through the doors, only to come out a minute later with a large bag.
“Thank you Mister Simpson!” an older man called, putting his head out of the open door slightly.
Mister Simpson laughed quietly and nodded as he tied the bag of mail onto the sled. After he was sure it was on tight, he walked to the back of the sled and positioned himself.
“Off to White Mountain,” he said. “Hike!”

Well it TOOK me long enough to type chapter 3. T_T But I have it done now. ;D SO here it is! Sorry 'bout the long wait!
Chapter Three
Panting slightly, Kodi came to a stop, his tail wagging loosely. With a glance behind him, he laughed at his team mates who were all out of breath. Shaking his head, trying not to laugh even more, the red husky turned back to the front.
He twitched his ears as he heard Mister Simpson walking toward him to let him free. As the young man patted Kodi’s head, they husky wagged his tail and barked happily. Mister Simpson smiled and slipped the harness off of his lead dog.
Stretching, Kodi walked away a few feet to wait for Kirby and Dusty. He smiled as his two friends walked over to him. Motioning with a nod of his head toward the outskirts of town, he walked away from the rest of the team, Kirby and Dusty following him.
“Where…?” Dusty started before Kodi silenced her with a shake of his head. The gray female cocked her head and glanced at Kirby, but continued on in silence.
After ten minutes, the red husky had led them to the first few trees leading into the woods. He glanced at his friends and smiled. Looking back in front of him, he spotted a familiar tree Balto had once pointed out to him.
With a nod of his head, Kodi quickened the pace, his paws barely making a sound on the snowy ground. He chuckled to himself at the sound of Kirby and Dusty’s paws treading across the ground. It seems like they were trying to be as silent as Kodi, but were unsuccessful.
Kodi slowed down a little, looking around him, making sure he knew where they were. Nodding to himself, he turned to the left, making sure Kirby and Dusty were close behind him.
Leading his two friends up on a high hill, he quickened the pace a little. Mere minutes later, the three huskies sat atop the hill, looking over the land for miles around.
“We’re here,” Kodi told them softly, smiling.
Kirby and Dusty looked around in a hushed awe. They looked toward the west where the sun was just setting. Over the ocean, different shades of pinks, blues, and purples seemed to dance across the water.
Nudging the two other huskies, Kodi motioned up at the sky where the aurora borealis danced across the sky in brilliant colors of red, green, blue and yellow. They sky and ocean seemed to be putting on a show for the three friends.
Dusty sighed longingly, wishing she could go up there. She glanced at Kodi and Kirby, the colors flickering across their fur. Smiling, she looked back up into the sky, mesmerized by the colors.
The tan husky glanced side-ways at his friends. A smile spread across his face as he saw their content looks. Slowly turning his head back up toward the vibrant sky, he tried to imagine what it would be like up there. The care-free life style seemed perfect to him.
Kodi looked over at Kirby and Dusty, attempting to see what they thought of the terrific display of lights miles above them. By the looks on their faces, he could tell they were enjoying it as much as he was.
The three friends sat on top of the hill in complete silence for what seemed like hours simply starting at nature’s light show. As the swirling colors slowly started to fade into the dark blue sky, Kodi glanced back at his friends. Once the last shades of yellow disappeared, the red husky stood to his paws. With a nod of his head, he motioned for Dusty and Kirby to follow him back to the small town.
Dusty grinned. “That was… amazing,” she said, her voice soft.
Kirby nodded. “It was more than amazing.”
Laughing, Kodi turned to look at his friends, glad to see that they enjoyed the aurora borealis. Turning back to the front, the red husky concentrated on their surroundings in order to make sure they did not get lost.
After around half an hour, they arrived back in Nome. He led them past the boiler room and continued onward.
“Where are we going Kodi?” Dusty asked, quickening her pace to walk next to him.
Kodi smiled. “I'm going to visit my mom. You two can come, or you can go somewhere else,” he told her.
The gray husky nodded, a wide smile spreading across her face. “Really?” she asked excitedly.
Chucking, Kodi nodded. He heard Kirby laugh on his other side. The red husky turned forward again, still laughing softly to himself.
“We’re here,” he said a few minutes later, stopping outside his mother’s house. Waiting until Dusty and Kirby sat down, he gently scratched on the door. Perking up his ears to catch the soft sound of footsteps across the floor, Kodi backed up a few steps.
With a slight creaking, the door opened. “Hey boy!” Rosie said, a huge smile on her face, running to the red husky and flinging her arms around him. “Come to see your mom with your friends, huh?” she asked, spotting Dusty and Kirby who thumped their tails happily.
The young brown haired girl gave the huskies a big toothy grin as she patted the two other dogs. Looking back in the house, she opened the door slightly. “Jenna, come on!” she called into the house.
A few seconds later, the red female walked out the door, nuzzling her son with affection. She glanced up at Rosie, wagging her tail.
“I'll come get you in a bit, okay, Jenna?” the girl said, petting Jenna before disappearing as she shut the door.
Jenna turned back to her song and his friends, smiling. “So how are you Kodi?” she asked in a motherly tone, licking his ears.
Kodi shrugged her off with an embarrassed laugh. Shaking himself slightly, he said, “I just brought Dusty and Kirby to that place you and Dad showed me.”
The female smiled and looked to Dusty and Kirby. “How did you two like it?”
“It was beautiful,” Dusty replied as Kirby nodded in agreement.
Jenna smiled. “Isn’t it, though.”
Kodi chuckled quietly, nodding. “It was one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.”
“Ooh,” Dusty giggled. “Only one of the most beautiful things you’ve seen? As in there have been other beautiful things in you life?”
The larger tan husky nudged her slightly. “And you ain’t one of them,” he told her jokingly.
Jenna laughed and looked up at the moon, figuring out what time it was. “I should get back in so my girl can go to bed,” she said, nuzzling her song along with his friends. “I will see you all soon.” Turning, she scratched on the door, signaling to Rosie she was ready to come back inside for the night.
Kodi watched as his mother walked inside before turning with Kirby and Dusty. The trio walked to the boiler room, bracing themselves for harsh comments from Cas and her friends that they knew would be coming.
“Here’s the three-some everybody,” her nagging voice teased as the three friends sat down.
The cream colored husky walked over with a while female behind her. Glaring at the three, the white husky rolled her emerald colored eyes.
Annoyed, Kodi leaned over and whispered something in first Dusty’s ear, then Kirby’s. He waited a few seconds as they both thought about what he had just said. Dusty exchanged determined glances with Kirby and nodded; the tan husky doing the same.
Smiling, Kodi leaned forward and touched Kirby’s nose with his. He could hear the shocked silence seep through the boiler room in a matter of seconds. Pulling away a little, the red male nuzzled Kirby, leaning into his muscular body slightly.
“What’s the point in denying things any longer?” Kodi said just loud enough for the dogs closest around them to hear. “When everyone all ready knows?”
Dusty gently pawed Kodi’s shoulder to get his attention. “And what about me?” she asked flirtatiously, batting her eyes.
The red husky laughed softly, pulling away from Kirby to face her. “How could I ever forget about you, my love? You light my world.” He paused, grinning happily. “You are my northern lights.”
Dusty smiled and scooted closer to him, licking his ear. He nuzzled her and licked her muzzle in return, wagging his tail.
With a subtle nod of his head only Kirby saw, the tan husky moved closer to his two friends, licking Kodi. The red husky turned toward him and once again nuzzled Kirby.
“How… taboo,” Cas commented, disgust flooding her voice.
Kodi stopped and faced her. “Aren’t you glad to know you were right about us, though?” he asked, cocking his head.
Cas snorted. “We didn’t need you three practically… making out!”
Kirby grinned. “We weren’t making out,” he stated.
“But if you want us to, just say he word,” the gray female said, leaning into Kodi.
The white husky who had remained silent through the whole thing shook her head wildly. “No. No. No!” she exclaimed. “If you all are going to do that, get out! No dog wants to see it!”
Kodi laughed. “If you insist,” he told her, nodding. “Come on Kirby, Dusty. Let’s go.”
The three friends walked out of the boiler room, trying to contain their laughter. After they were a few blocks away, they let it out.
“Can you… believe that?” Kirby asked, trying to catch his breath.
Dusty shook her head, giggling still. “How did you come up with that plan Kodi?”
The red husky smiled. “I just decided to give them what they wanted. But it’s only because you two decided to go with the act that it worked.” He looked at his two friends. “But do you really think they bought it?” he questioned uncertainly. “Did you really fool them?”
Kirby and Dusty glanced at each other then back at Kodi.
“Oh course they did,” Kirby said, his voice full of confidence.
Dusty nodded. “Especially Cas. I mean, did you see the look on her face?”
The three laughed again. Kodi looked at both of his friends once more and smiled. He was about to say something, but the sound of paws walking across the cold snowy ground caught his attention.
“Kodi…?”
“Dad?”
