I was browsing Amazon.com because I was bored and look what I found:

http://www.amazon.com/mini-DVD-Mini-Siz ... 016&sr=1-7

It's a mini DVD (although it can play in most regular-sized players), and even though Amazon says it's in full-screen, the decription says it will preserve the original aspect ratio of the film - which is Widescreen.

So, Balto might be available in widescreen in the US and Canada. Of course, there's no way of telling for sure, but I do wonder...

Sounds like a bootleg to me. The box image is pretty crummy.

This is a bit strange. The packaging looks official, although I've never heard about a mini-dvd for Balto (or even about any mini dvd for films, in fact) This is something very recent though, because I hadn't seen it on Amazon before.
I doubt the quality is as good as the regular dvd though, considering a mini dvd only has 1.5Gb of space.
Anyone want to buy and see?

EDIT : In fact there are a lot like this. Looks like something that hasn't reached Europe...

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_d/002 ... .y=0&Go=Go

Anyway, if this is really official, I don't understand that they waste their time on something like this instead of releasing a 3-dvd pack or *gasp* a special edition dvd...

I still don't like the looks of it. If it were official, why is that image like that?

-That was taken with a digital camera rather than taken from the internet. You can tell from the odd angle the case is at.
-Also, the fur on the back of Balto's neck is slightly dark for no reason.
-We'd have probably heard about this before if it were legitimate.

One of us should try contacting Universal about this.

At least something has been done for Balto, no matter how crummy or unofficial it looks...

Yes, true. Better than nothing, especially that there doesn't seem to be a lot of "mini dvd" available. But that isn't really the kind of thing that will sell well.

Well, in fact this is the exact same dvd case as the official, except for the text "The true story..." being moved to the left. And it has the same logos as on the other mini-dvd covers. So yes, I think it is really official.
We would have heard about this? Well, then when? Do you truly expect Universal to make a press release for something like that? They didn't even make one for the release of Balto 3!

I've understood that they are dvds that you can play in portable dvd players, the mini size making them easier to use on travels.
