This is on my must list:

1. Talented Guitar work: the more musical the better. Repeating 3 chords over and over throughout the entire song is boring and annoying. Also multiple guitars working in harmony adds SO much.

2. Nice vocal work: A nice sounding lead vocalist is a good thing. Also, if the band members join in, that adds a neat effect.

3. Relatively clean lyrics: Some swears I could tolerate. But if it's swears straight through, not interested. It means the writer is not creative in expressing.

Bonus:

1. Great lyric writing: Something creative you know? The Doors are a good example.

2. Hard rocking: No reason needed. I want fun music to listen to.

3. Awesome drumming: It really adds to the "rock out" factor.

1.0 smooth guitarwork and hairrasing solos: bands like Metallica and Dream Theater are excellent for this aspect (SP?) ...

2.) The Drumming! I want a drummer whos not only entertaining to listen to over and over but also keeps the proper timeframe up without it being overkill

3.) Solid basslines.. enough said within those first 2 words!

4.) Excellent lyrical content is important to me as writer because I can draw inspiration of them if they are good enough! a big shout out to DT again for this amazing aspect of their music!.. complete madness!

I also like hearing stuff like keyboards and continuum in there as well...

So there you have the perfect musical formula for my particular musical taste...

Basically, Rush and Van Halen. Rush has the absolute greatest drummer of all time, an excellent lyricist, and a great bass and guitar player (although their singer stinks. He sings like a female banshee.)
Van Halen has the absolute greatest guitar player of all time, and who could ask for a better front man to grab attention? No one can do it as well as David Lee Roth. And they've got well written, cool sounding songs. (and need I mention Eddie's awesome synthesizer work in 'Jump?' :D

I'm listening to them. The singer doesn't sound too bad. I can't stand those high throaty emo singing voices though.

The lyrics I suppose, and how well the riffs and melody's all fit together and just a great straight forward fast cut the crap sound, pretty much just Punk, most metal and some rock

Umm does anyone like not listen to music that does not suck?
I like most types of rock more alternative/metal, no country, and NO FALL OUT BOY. The swearing thing doesn't bother me that much since most of the music I listen to doesn't have alot of swearing but profanity bad themes. EXAMPLE: Mindless Self Indulgence has a combo of bad words and all that other good stuff, not really. The only type of music that i listen to that has lots of swearing is the Rap and hip hop so yeah just saying: Does anyone here listen to the Metal? Metal, death metal, Hardcore, nu metal?

BTW. I must say that I'm glad you introduced Takida to me. They're very good. I still listen to them.
