We did have a mate box at one time but Steet took it down for good reason.

No and no. No mate talks. To think it's been more than one year since I removed it, and people are still talking about it...
I don't think this is very sane, especially for the youngest. Seriously, how can you say "i love you" to someone you don't truly know?
Anyway, I'm not coming back to this. This is a definite no. And if you want to continue doing this, then stick with private messages. But remember : never give any personal information.

My opinion is no. Its really sick to say you love someone you don't even know that well and With all the sick bad stuff on the internet these days anything can happen.
If mates were allowed, people who like chatting about mates might find out. This site ends up to be dangerous for anyone that way.
Its just not safe and sanitary.

Nooo.
You're only saying that because you HAVE a mate, but think about the other members. Do we REALLY need to see people saying "I love you" to people in RP? It's sick...like Steet said, these are people you've met over the internet.
I say take EVERYTHING that has to do with mates to private messages. It keeps everyone happy. Just think; it's better than having no mates at all.

Ummm thats dumb. Why would you say I love you in the boxes and then take it to pm's? Why not start the WHOLE conversation in PMs?
MATES are ANNOYING. No one wants to see you say I love you either.

I'm very sorry but, I must disagree. I think it's completely idiotic to even consider having an online boyfriend. You don't know who you're talking with. For all you know it's an old pervert messing with you. So, if you plan on doing this, which I don't recomend, don't give out any personal information. AND if you are going to do that here, take to the Pms.
Also, I think it is a bit amusing yet sickening at the same time. Young kids, under the age of 18 sometimes under the age of 14 talking about well, topics with sexual content. This is funny to me because most of them have no idea what they're talking about!XD Yet, it's sickening to think someone that age is doing that over the internet.

I'm sort of suprised that this topic has been brought back up...I wasn't around in the "ye old days", but I've heard about the "mate box" and I agree that a public place for saying "I love yous" isn't that good of an idea
1) PMs are fine, because mostly mates happens between two people
2) There's a fine line between good and bad mate stuff (which I won't go into) and the mods'll have one more box to patrol.
3) There's kids who may go on this site and see things of a sexual manner (hey, it can happen) and then something bad could happen.
4) There are a lot of ways this box could start more uneeded drama (mate fights or something)
etc etc etc

I think the best way to answer this is No. Simple as that. There is rules about mates for a reason, and its as simple as that. I dont think we need to bring up this mate issue again. I mean, get real people and go get a date in real life.

I agree. Having a "mate" is basically like having a cyber boyfriend or girlfriend. It is really sick, plus you can be putting yourself in danger. This person will warm up to you and you feel you can trust them, eventually maybe share personal info or a picture? You don't know who the person really is! It could be some phyco looking for little children or something. Seriously!

We have a zero tolerance policy on "mate talk" here on Balto Source, that is that.
