I just watched this movie yesterday, and wow! I have not seen a movie of that quality in a long time, it was such an acceptional film. The effects were amazing, although some say the effects and visuals were cheesy, but you have to remember that this movie was made in 1968. It actually had better visuals and effects then starwars ep. 4 which was made some 10 years later. This movie was nothing less than art!

So I was woundering if anyone else saw 2001: A space odyssey, and if you didnt it is a must see, any Si-Fi fan should check it out.

I've seen it in the cinemas with my school class a few years ago. Actually, I usually hate the films that are slow, and yet I liked this one. Although this is REEEEEEEEEAAAAALLLLLLLLLLYYYYY slow...and I didn't understand anything about the end.

Errr... :? Well I wouldn't compare realistic effects such as Star wars, to the psychedelic effects in this film...

Yeah I know it was probably the slowest movie I have ever seem but still it just is so great!

Also about the effects I was not talking aout the crazy psychedelic stuff, I was talking about the models since both movies used them in there film. I was very impressed how well the models interacted with the scenery. So I think the effects were just as good as starwars.

(also I am refering to the original un-edited starwars not the new remasterd versions)

It's one of those films that, if one doesn't read the book it's based upon, then it's really hard to understand. But even at that, it is an exceptional film; it won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, and was nominated for several others, including Best Picture.

I'm a big space fan, and I learned that this movie came out just months before Apollo 8 launched--meaning, it was released BEFORE mankind first went to the Moon. Man, back then, the movie must have seemed so possible; imagine, a trip to Jupiter. It could have happened!

All in all, a very good film.

Our policy on dead topics is that although we prefer that you don't revive a topic that's beyond the third page. However, you may post on really old topics provided that the post is not considered a spam post. Skulblaka's post, from what I can see, isn't spam, so I'll allow it.

However, it is in the wrong section, so I'll move it.

*SIGH* this policy SEEMS to change like the winds. This is the last time I say a single word about this stuff. Everytime I am made to believe it's one thing, it becomes another.

It's actually printed on the rules, a rule which we added sometime last year so we (read: the mods) can deal with topic necromancy with the same idea of what's allowed and what's not.

Upon realizing these inconsistencies, we made a rule for it so we can all deal with it the same way.

Quote:
20. Topic necromancy. Before starting a new topic, make sure there isn't a similar one in the first 3 pages of the section. Also, you're allowed to post in "dead" topics (for example, a topic in which the last message was posted in 2006) as long as your post is not spam.

Now please, let us get back on topic.

I saw this movie recently, and thought it was okay. The first half-hour or so was slow, but it did set up the situation well. The middle of the movie, when Dave is on the ship with the psychotic HAL 9000 was the best bit, but the last half-hour or so, after he goes through the portal made no sense. It seemed too random to me.
