I've heard some mixed messages. Some people like it, some people don't like it. I personally like it but am not wild about it either. I sometimes find that anthropomorphism is an interesting method of expressing a character. For example, the clever Robin Hood was depicted as a fox by Disney. We sometimes associate character traits with animals. I find anthropomorphism as a way of expression of character.
Also, anthropomorphism is probably easier to draw. As humans, we have high expectations of artistic quality in human characters because we see humans everyday. The artist has to work extra hard to get humans just right. But drawing a dog or a cat is easier because we don't notice subtle errors. I'm not an anthropomorphist artist, but this is what I've heard.
However, people who're really into furry, like in a perverted fashion... that really creeps me out. Also the people who live it, like attach ears or tails on themselves in public. That's also taking it far. It should be left in the art.

I find it pretty interesting. Umm, what does furry mean. Btw Gauntlet you said people live it and dress up with ears and tails , dude that would creep anyone out lol. Man, if I happend to see someone like that walking towards me on the street I would run as fast as I could in the opposite direction.

I like anthro animals, like the ones DragonDrawer does, they're just awesome. I also thought Disneys Robin Hood was a great example of simple anthro animals.
"Furries" however are another matter, I think that stuff is gross. x_x
I think people who wear tails, ears and things are maybe a bit excentric (SP?), I think wearing fursuits for fun-runs, charity events and things is fine, just a load of fun.
I want to practice some anthro stuff, I find that harder to draw than regular, four-legged animals. XD

I like anthropomorphism a lot, nearly as much as regular animal style. I doubt I'd go fursuiting or to a convention or anything though, unless I was doing so with good, like-minded friends.
I always say, to each his own, and the degree of 'furriness' or 'furry lifestyle' that someone exhibits doesn't bother me (so long, of course, as they're not doing anyone harm or stalking or anything else wrong.) There are furry pervs just like with anything else (probably considerably more), but they shouldn't ruin the fun and enjoyment of most cool people who like anthro animals. ^^

Yeah, I like anthros, but the ones that wear clothes.. Furries scare me sometimes XD.
I once saw this show on TV that showed all these people who would even do surgery to look like their favorite animal...they ended up looking like a freaky person walking around on the streets shaking people's hands XD.

I think there is some confusion about the meaning of anthropomorphism. Let me explain:
Anthropomorphism means "assigning humanlike qualities to a nonhuman creature". No, that's not just Robin Hood and Sonic the Hedgehog. Not at all. Even the movie Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey, as well as Milo and Otis, are anthropomorphic. They are real dogs and cats, but they are portrayed speaking and thinking as humans do.
Balto and other animated films are even more anthropomorphic, since the characters can have humanlike expressions on their faces, and have mouths that move when they talk.
It's not just walking on two feet and playing human characters. Actually, most any animated film which has an animal as the main character is anthropomorphic.
An example of a non-anthropomorphic animal film would probably be White Fang.
That's my take on it, anyways. It's one of my favorite kinds of genres

If "anthropomorphic" means what you all are saying it means - Robin Hood, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Swat Cats - I really don't like it that much. I'd much rather have the animals act more like animals that can think and speak like humans, like in Balto. I can only tolerate a little bit of total anthropomorphism.

Stuff like Robin Hood, I like. I actually have a few characters representing myself and some others. I like cartoon animals and what-not, but I can't stand cartoon humans. They just bother me. Maybe it's because I can't draw humans at all.
