NOTICE: These are strictly MY views, and do not conflict with those views of the RPrs, storymakers, etc.

****************

NEW NEW NEW!!! DrewTheWolf gave an excellent explanation of what could be used in a full-fledged, active RP... now I'm not saying this is exactly what we all expect from everyone, but it is a good example, and I urge you to read it here:

DrewTheWolf {AB} wrote:
Example:

Dusk had come and the wind swirled about the village with a merciless howl and the rain drizzled down in the cold Transylvanian night. She was to keep watch this evening, she trotted back and fourth on the back of a massive black stallion watching over the village.

It was a heartless place, this village...cursed with the most monstrous and fearful of things. Vampires, werewolves, you name it they had it. She fingered the handle of her sword, thinking about the past and how things had come to be. Thunder cracked and in the distance a shadowy figure loomed. She gasped and tightened the reigns, glancing into the darkness as a pair of yellow eyes darted about at the far end of the village. And as the moonlight shifted she saw it clearly...a werewolf.

Swiftly she hoped off the horse and tied it to a fence post and pulled out her gun, she stayed focused and alert as she approached in the darkness. She had to get a clear shot at the beast if she didn't all hell would surely break lose. "Come on," She whispered in between gritted teeth silently to herself. The beast whirled around as she took one last step and she fired.

The beast lunged and it nicked the werewolf. Anna gasped, "No!" She cursed herself for having missed and fired again, the werewolf jumped on the side of the room as she fired another shot and it launched itself at her and she ducked rolling to the side as it crashed through a barn. She scrambled up and whirled around aiming the gun as the creature flew up with a roar and she fired her last shot and it nailed the beast of burden in the heart. The werewolf screeched a horrible cry and it fell over dead.

She fell to the ground as the rain poured down now she closed her eyes and let the cool rain run down her face. This was getting tiring and fast, years of this. She opened her eyes and reality came back to her, this was her life. Anna got up, and strode over to the horse and untied it. "Come now," She hushed the horse as it was whinnying nervously. She walked toward the house and hoped Velkan was there, she looked on as the dawn was nearly rising. Tomorrow would be along day and the night even longer for the un-dead walk the evening hours and she was surprised she had no encountered any of the brides recently. Though long absences were never good, werewolves were quite different then vampires. They were much easier to kill...

Anna was lucky, if she hadn't fired that last shot and hit she would be dead...or far worse...a werewolf herself.

There is so much more to be said on this subject, but for now I'll leave it at that.

Well, as you probably have guessed, I have an idea about these many many MANY RPS on this site with one-liners, short posts, and webspeak.

I don't want to take up more space on this site to rant about anything and everything, I have only made another rant post ONCE, so I am not ranting about EVERY little thing.

First thing's first: How many actually good RPs are there? By good, I don't just mean good plottlines, or stories. I mean good in the way that it is enjoyable to everyone in particular the RPrs who put TIME and conscious THOUGHT into their posts. These are just like live life stories, and you're making happen as you go! So do it like that!

For instance, people will post short, one-liners, and will deviate from the source topic (I must admit, I did this once, as well). They'll branch off into entirely new topics, and have their own ideas mingle with the original one. It gets confusing, and annoying.

Second thing: How many ACTUALLY good RPrs are there? I mean people who think through their stories first, who put depth into it, who want to have good characters in the story, the RPrs who actually THINK, and make the RP because of the original idea, not because they thought, "I want to RP, so... I'll make a topic about a wolf who goes and finds her.. long-lost father! yeah, that sounds good!"

How many random, and in the longrun, really boring topics are lie this? I am not saying that you are boring and unoriginal, what I want to get out to everyone is that: These RPs are beginning to rule the world of Repetition. Originality is for people who don't exist on these forums, and those that do - I see RARE few.

I am going to post the links to some RPs which I found were at least OK, for me... now this is JUST ME, remember, I am not saying "These are the only good RPs. o make one like these." I am pointing out that these are similar types of work I would like to see from us all.... think about it, don't just randomly go do things because you are bored, make it interesting, and worth it!

This one is, to a level, a relatively OK RP... we sometimes post short lines, but at least it has a good storyline (Short enough that it can be tweaked and played with along the way), and the RPrs actually post and get along, don't get random, and we most of all STAY ON TOPIC and TOOGETHER.

viewtopic.php?t=12798
This one is a bit out there... ... we lost most of the players, so we're trying to keep it perpetually going the right way. It is a little loose, but I think it is well organized, and acceptable.

Lastly: I'm posting a link to my own RP, just so you have an idea of the kind of thing I would do... remember, this is me, what I would do, not what I expect out of you:
viewtopic.php?t=7871
This one took MONTHS of PMing, character bio tweaking, "try-outs" for characters, and eventauly rule-guiding. I think it was for about... six months, I typed up rules and forwarded them to each individual member, and I kept a log of their characters.
As you can see, if you look through it, we lost a few players, there are only three at the time (No, we are not accepting). But everyone has stuck cleanly to the rules, stayed on-track, and made the characters unpredictable, but safe, and fun.

ALL of these RPs are, for the majority and in MY OPINION, webspeak-less, have clean posts, and are rule-following with acceptable to excellent RPrs.

Lastly: I'll list the best RPrs I have seen... thee are people who I think have played exceptionally greatly, and I give many many kudos to you all:

Pirkka_Fin
Balto_Tracer
Sam-SRA
Apri~Werewolf

That's all for now... hopefully, this will help, in some way.

If anyone notices something that they personally want changed, just let me know.

Well, yes, I suppose a few loose ones would be OK... but the thing is, the ENTIRE forum is full of these, and it's really annoying for serious roleplayers.

I have to agree with you on this one.. I can't stand when there's 10 thousand RP's with plots that aren't even a sentance long. I'm thinking of giving up Roleplaying all together..

P.S. I voted for the 4th thing

Thanks! I agree with your views, too, for fun, that is OK, of course... but a whole forum dedicated to one-liner posters, and stories that everyone uses over and over and over? I don't think so, but I can see where I can make a ton of "enemies" too.

I haven't really read through your post, but skimmed through it.

Yesterday, I went on the shoutbox, hoping to join in and learn how to rp.
And supposedly, this is how you do it:

*lol1!"hEY*"Looks up "get the coyote!"* *JUMpS!'

 I don't know how to rp but that is NOT how you do it. I came in and rped with Yupik, with LEGIBLE posts of MORE THAN half of a sentence, and proper GRAMMAR. And WHY USE ASTERIKS FOR ACTIONS? You're already in a roleplay box, just write the story like a book. And some people just randomly add stuff in. Like for example, this is what one person said (not exactly though):

AH! get the coyote off!

And NO ONE was TALKING about a stupid coyote  . When I roleplayed, some people said I was really good, and were surprised when I told them it was my first time. Not too brag, but doesn't that say something about these *******?

Yes, opinion is really what the world is... everyone is entitled to his/her own thoughts. That is why you see "my opinion" in bold a few times throughout this... I am just stating my idea. But good point.

I have never played in the RP box, but I've seen this before... it could have been some goofy fun thing between some other people, but... it's annoying when another joins, and you have NO idea what they are talking about.

You are right about RPing not being like that... but when you're in a shout-box setting, posts tend to be shorter, theer is no "log" of it, of just you, and your RPrs, it's whoever else is in there, so the box itself is mostly to keep those people who want action in their posts, out of the regular box.

In more realistic "Professional"-like RPs, the posts would be like the above links, something longer, telling what your character may be thinking, and what he or she is saying.

Nice post, I think people will gain something from it!

Thanks. Maybe there should be two seperate threads, one for "advanced" roleplayers, and one for beginners.. although there are quite a few "beginners" who do say they're advanced..so..

You should make a new roleplay some time, I'll be sure to join it.

Hey... that does sound like a good idea... I would PM steet, but something tells me that he'll have a good reason not to do it... probably the sam one you stated, that there are people who say they are advanced, but who need even just a little work.... maybe there could be new RP mods, and they could "recruit" people into the advanced RP section, and there is one password that only the advanced people know... might be a good idea... I change my mind, I'll PM steet.

Thanks about the new RP idea... I probably will make another one, sometime, but at the moment, I don't have any ideas, and I don't want to randomly make one... like many of the others. But I'll keep that in mind!

For me..I would say I'm a okay RPer...

Most people would not say this not at all (To me) but I do not RP that good but sometimes I can be really long...but just wait...I am new to this, so I would not be good when I start, right? And Kodiwolf you are one of the best RPers I have ever seen (With a few others) Really...don't even think it's only that I am one of your friends...no way...I pick good people that are nice...and I don't talk to you a lot Kodiwolf...so really I'm just a side friend of yours...now I don't want to get off topic here so...I love the good RPers and I want to be like them...but I just need more info...anyways awsome topic!

Hmm I think that would get a bit confussing. And even if it did happen, theres noting stopping each type of Role-players from goind on the threads, and people go onto rp to have fun, they may have friends that arn't/are good and on on threads. Anyway as long as a mod is around they can tell who is Role-playing properly. If a mod tells you to leave the rp or rp propely, you HAVE to other wise you will get banned.

That is funny!
