Do you think Balto will be more popular and well known by people around the world if Disney have involved in the making of the movie :?:
Like Disney helping Universal Studios with the advertising or showing the 3 Balto movies on Disney...

No, because most people don't pay attention to which company makes a movie, they pay more attention to who directs and who acts in a movie. (Or more down to the point what the movie's about, but I'm not getting that deep into it)

It would have, definitely. Not because Disney is more famous for animated films than Universal (well it still would have played a bit), but because they KNOW how to market an animated film, which Universal don't. Besides, they would have put more money to market it, while Universal truly didn't make any effort.

If Balto had been made by Disney, it would probably be as famous as any other animated film from Disney.

We have already talked about all that in a similar topic, not too long ago.

The sure thing is that it's NOT very popular (when compared to the average animated film), but the open question is : can it BECOME very popular, or could it have become very popular? And from everything I've gathered, yes, to me, it could have become very popular if only they have TRIED...

No, the company that makes it doesn't determine how good it does. Disney has made a few unpopular movies along the way.

In addition, Universal isn't all that less popular than Disney. Let's not forget who came up with E.T. and The Land Before Time (man I love that series!). It mostly depends on advertisement and quality. Balto lacked the first mostly. Disney advertises more.

Don't forget, we talk about animated films here, this is very different from live movies. And into this, Disney is by far the best for everything. One example? Give me the name of any animated film from Disney which didn't get a decent DVD...

We aren't talking DVD's here. We're talking popularity in general, are we not? Because Balto did poorly in theaters.

As for Disney, I wasn't talking live action either. For example, didn't Happily Never After do below average in theaters?

Really though, does every kid judge a book by its cover, or a movie by its box art?

Ah yes, The Rescuers. One of my favourite childhood films gets a lousy DVD that has very few interesting features, an underwhelming cover and poor picture quality. Sounds familiar? And like Balto, loyal fans created a peititon for a better DVD. And now, it's getting a Masterpiece Edition in July. The same could happen for Balto if we really do try.

(Besides, if Balto was done by Disney, it would probably have a sequence where all the dogs start to sing and dance  )

Did this movie really flop that bad? A little observation here:

Most everything else that had to do with Amblin got a video game. The Land Before Time had a GBA game and a PSX game, and perhaps one more. ET got a game on the Atari 2600 that is famous for being a piece of crap. Even We're Back: A Dinosaur Story got a game!

But Balto didn't? Geeze, someone give me a comparison: how bad did this movie really do?

Why did I expect this name? :)
The only problem that Disney has about this film, is legal issues. There is some controversy about racist content in this film, and this is the ONLY reason they didn't release a dvd of it yet. Nothing to do at all with Balto.

A little more than 10 Millions dollars at the US box office...Yes that was very poor, even at the time. Fortunately it got much higher success on video, but still not enough to repair this.

Well, you see. Do you have a link to that petition though? (considering The rescuers is much more popular than Balto though, I wouldn't be surprised if the number of signatures is much higher too)

Believe it or not, the current amount of signatures is lower than the petition for Balto. That's quite unusual, since the Rescuers DVD had about the same amount of advertisement as the Balto DVD.

Here's the link:

Well, in that case, the petition has probably nothing to do with them releasing a better dvd...
