I have relised that many times on the shoutbox's there have been threats to hurt people or they are calling them names. It is desturbing some.I was wondering if this could be helped in some way.

It's not useless, some other people may wonder the same thing and may not know about the "report to the mods" function.

And it isn't like they can follow through with their so called 'threats'. Just report it to a mod and they will be taken care of.

It's simple, very simple, if someone threatens you, contact the authorities. End of story.

If the person knows you personally, like lives in your neighborhood, and threatens to hurt you if you report them to the mods, maybe for your own safety you should wait a day or two and then report it. Else they might think it was you.
But if they can't do anything to you, report them immediately. If they call you rude words, well, ignore and report them further ;D.
