Yeah, I agree. Although I watched bits of the original before WQ, it was WQ that made me want to buy Balto.

I don't think it was necessary, it would've come out to DVD anyway because that's what happened to Rock-A-Doodle and every other sequelless Don Bluth movie.
Yes, Universal did make more sales, but thanks to their "brillient" Balto 2, everyone's(not on Balto Source) opinion of the first Balto movie is in the direction of "I don't wanna watch that movie, its a kids movie" when it was for the entire family, while the other two weren't and were strictly kid-friendly.
Making the third movie, though they managed to fix some past mistakes, they failed to fix others which were twice as important, and again didn't make good money off it. And if the world never had Balto Source, I think we all would've survived...
But the main reason is, in the first movie, you pretty much knew what happened to Balto after the first movie: He was respected and honored for the rest of his life (hey, gotta give the kids a happy ending, besides, they're not lying) And Balto and Jenna lived happily ever after.
It didn't leave you room to think "Hmm, I wonder what happened after that?" because they told you in the movie. No room to think. End of story. No need to ruin other people's (who haven't seen it yet) opinions on it by making sequels that didn't live up to the first movie. Or else they'll say "You know what? I'm glad I spent my money seeing Toy Story instead when it came out." ;P

Agree, but the 3rd movie is better than 2nd movie, right?

As Cat said, we didn't really need a sequel to Balto. We know what happened to him. We didn't really need the sequels. However, I did find the 2nd one rather entertaining, and since it had magic and spirits in it, I know it never happened in real life so it doesn't take away the magic of the original.

The sequels are chronologically incorrect. In terms of technicality, there should have only been one movie.
Everything that happened in the first movie happened in the past. It was Grandma Rosie telling her granddaughter of a past story. Then, all of the sudden, in Balto 2 and 3, the past became the present, and it's as if Grandma Rosie didn't exist yet, just the child Rosie.
But that's just me being literal
In terms of my opinion, we didn't need them. Balto would have been better as a one-hit wonder IMO.

Hey, they really didn't have any technology in the first movie... it's just that all of the hand-drawn stuff was done so well!
