(well, she is, but I think Kodi was a lot more selfish).
I completely agree. At least Aleu wasn't harming anyone by running away. Honestly, if Kodi hadn't FINALLY decided to help Balto, both Balto and Duke would've died.
I also agree with you on the other part of your post. Balto actually
lied to Aleu. He insisted that she would be a dog, even though she acted like a wolf and looked like a wolf. So she believes she's a dog, and here she is in fairytale land, assuming that someone will take her because
people like dogs. People like wolves, too, but not back then they didn't. You couldn't see those majestic animals we see now. You would've seen a killer, and the instinct is to fight it. Revenge, you could call it.
Then - shock horror - in the middle of a fun time, Aleu is suddenly stabbed with the knowing of this instinct. She knows that she'll be tossed aside because she's hated, great. But it's been behind her back all the time. If she had been told as a pup, it'd really have burst her bubble, but she may have grown to live with it. As an adult, it actually hurt her.
She was angry, as others said. 'course she'd get emotional, I think you would too. No, Balto can't help being part wolf, but he doesn't need to embarrass her like this.
