Has anyone noticed that every so-often there is a major lag spike, and it takes 2-3 minutes to load a page or refresh? It's just kind of...tedious...if you know what I mean. I wonder what causes it? The web hosting? Too many people logged in? What do the rest of you think?

Bandwidth consumption, perhaps? Almost 5,000 joined members on one single broadband/cable line can really kill your bandwidth before your alloted amount is consumed before the end of the month- even Tier1 can't save ya now...

Also, the designated storage server is probably an older IBM system that is slowly expiring over the years or the disk cache isn't scheduled to be cleaned daily, VBScript hacks can consume bandwidth and eat processor and physical memory, the main harddisk could have failed and is running off a back-up RAID unit, or the hosting site is just have technical issues.

as ameratsu said, with so many members, and so many people online, even a high-end connection will start to lag. i have run a search, and the server BS is on, is, indeed an older IBM unit, running a RAID config.

Companies should start using optic carrier lines like the one I built, however, pre-configured lines cost $$$. Fortunately, OC-12 gets 655MBps as opposed to a broadband connection of 3MBps...

EDIT: ...but then again, I doubt seldom few would want to pay $1,199.99 USD per year for just an OC-3 line connection. I tell you, OC providers really grab you by the balls with their extravagant prices. I paid that much for materials to create my own OC-12 line and I still run faster than OC-3... :)

Bandwidth or script hacks are more higher probable, as even a single 2GHz Pentium 4 shouldn't have a problem accessing 200-250 system processes to run the site... or perhaps that server is in cooperation with another site domain.

!!! ... or maybe it is just physical memory dumping from unformatted RAM in the server. Chances are it is running DDRRAM @ 333MHz so that's a giveaway that hints a problem. Insufficient amount of RAM? I wouldn't think so.

steet said thatits a professional hosting, way above T1. He said if we wanted to know more, ask member, timduru about it. he is steets hoster. Also, he said it was more about code optimization. Even teh fastest processor and RAM wont help if it is not formatted to best run the code.
