OK, to start off, i apologize to any website officals if there is this topic already hanging around somewhere on the website. It's been a long time since i've been on here, even longer since i posted (around half a year), but this may be my most important message ever. Now, many of you may know of the wishes of the bush adm. to allow the slaughter of up to 2/3 of the wolves in wyoming and Idoha in the northern rockies https://secure2.convio.net/dow/site/Adv ... erest=C3C4
(that is a site where you can fight back).....so....this message is meant for everyone who cares....anyone who can watch that video and feel something...some emotion at all....feel human.... There's two days left to act, with around 70 thousand votes in need...you can save the life of a wolf from death!.....then again what gave us the right to take them away in the first place?

I might have assisted you if you hadn't have said that. You're implying people that do not assist in it do not harbor human emotion. Moreover, 2/3 is far too much. If some had to be killed, there is not a big deal, as they will reproduce, hopefully, and there should be a logical reason for doing so even then.
EDIT: The website stated "our wolves." Taking possession over something they do not own. The wolves are a part of nature, not "our wolves" Taking possession on the name to gain public support through affection. They are degrading the wolves.

This belongs in the animals section, moved to Animals section.
I can't believe they'd do that, remove the protection and soon enough there'll be no wolves left again, I'd love to sign it but there's no way I'd be allowed/or feel comfortable with giving out my full name and adress.

You know, I'm very tired of people tacking George Bush's name onto anything they don't like to make it sound evil and scary. George Bush has no jurisdiction over this. You make it sound like he woke up one morning and decided he hates wolves and that he'd kill as many as he could.
You present no counterargument, only that anyone who doesn't support you must be some sort of inhuman monster with no feelings. What about the feelings of people who raise cattle in Wyoming and Idaho? This is their business and their ability to feed their families you're talking about here. This thing about Idaho and Wyoming has been beaten into the ground over and over again.
We've already discussed this topic a number of times and all we are here to do is provide our names and addresses? Sounds like a scam-ola to me!
And as for all that, how is this going to save any wolves at all? A magical petition online is going to convince them that they're wrong? Right. Just send 10 dollars and we'll take care of the rest!

I never thought there were that many wolves in Idaho or Wyoming. Besides, this petition won't work. Most petitions telling the state to change something will utterly fail their goal.
However, I don't understand why they are going to kill 2/3 of them in the first place.
I hate this kind of crap. Widespread misconceptions about wolves have been drilled deep into some peoples' small excuses for brains. That they are evil, vicous creatures that aim only to diminish the cattle population. Oh please. I would post a long argument here, but that would go in the rant section, and I am too lazy to write one.
P.S. On a few occasions my family argued wolves attack cattle too much, but in nearly every debate about such I always win because I know about wolves.

I'll be signing but I never include my entire address.. I believe my name is more than enough.
Some decisions people make are crazy.. killing 2/3 of the wolves? Why?!

It seems to me is that yes every population of animals needs to be kept in check, but these people just sound uneducated. I'd rather like to see money go for project to teach people that they help the environment by keeping other animal populations in balance which in turn helps out other animals that may compete for food with the wolves prey.

Well, i'd just like to wonder why they need to be killed anyway? Mabye we need more space for factories or something than again. The wolves aren't attacking us, were attacking them >.>
Also, there's one more event that IS taking place right now, and that is the areil shootings of wolves. If you managed to find the information on that before i tell you, you'll see that it says that people pay money to use a sniper rifle, fly in a helicopter until it finds a wolf or a pack, the helicopter than chases the wolves until they can't run any further, and then the "customer" gets to shot and kill the wolf. And, i want to add, i remember seeing a video clip of this on the news years ago, so im pretty sure this might have been going on for a long time...I've heard people referr to this as the "ultimate chase"..and the "ultimate game".
This whole wolf killing issue gets me realy mad, unlike anything had before >.>
(P.S. i found a website that talks about the alaksan killings... http://www.wolfman.com/articles/2006/09 ... in-alaska/ )

I do believe they have some valid point, that is the wolf population can get out of control and their numbers could rise to where it brings in their well being in danger. So the numbers need to be controlled.

well.....i'd like to correct myself on something i said before about the wolf killings...or i guess im adding to it....but not only are the human killings and attacks by wolves under 10...BUT...there has never been a report of a "sane" wolf killing, and when there are "sane" wolves attacking humans, they are usually pushed to the point of defending themselves (meaning the victims most likely provoked the wolves. And by a "sane" wolf, i mean though that have no fallen to a disease that turns them "wild" or "insane", such as rabies. I just don't think some of you understand what the plan is going to do, alot of the the wolves that will be killed are in protected that. Once they wonder out of that land, possibly for food or by mistake, they get shot...and you never know, if they manage to pass this, the might just go ahead and kill the "protected" wolves.

Well, Balto, that's some nice logic there. Once they're done with the unprotected wolves, they'll just move on to the protected ones. Yes, I'm sure that's what they'll do.
It's not for factories and it's not because George Bush or the governor of Idaho is a bad man. It's because of overpopulation. They are overpopulated and causing threat to livestock populations in the area. That's all. They're not going to be hunted into extinction. They're going to be hunted until they are no longer overpopulated. If they were still endangered in those states, the US Fish and Wildlife Department would step in and stop it. That is their job.

I doubt the government is that concerned about the overpopulation. I immagine the conversation preceding the descision to recommence hunting the wolves went somthing like this...
[secretary] "And for the next point on our agenda... ah, the overpopulation of wolves..."
[governor] "Boooring..."
[secratary] "Indeed. Now, what are we going to do about it?"
[governor] "You should not be asking what we are going to do, but why we should do anything in the first place. Why should we care about the overpopulation of them wolves?"
[secretary] "Because overpopulations is harmfull to the wolves..."
[governor] "Why booh-hoo, poor wolves... I've got better things to do than worry about those flea ridden mongrels. Besides, what is harmfull about overpopulation? More is better!"
[secretary] "If there are too many wolves, they'll deplete their resources and starve..."
[governor] "Ah, there you have it, problem solved! The wolves will starve, and when they do, the overpopulation will be over. See, kid, these things sort themselves out! Now, on to real business...
[door slams open, guy with suit and two $-marked bags steps in]
[guy-in-suit] "Did someone say... overpopulation?"
[governor] "Eh... who the hell are you and how did you get here?"
[guy-in-suit hands over the first $-bag]
[governor] "Sounds like a plausible answer! [turns to secratary] Kiddo, get this fine gentelman a chair and a drink! now! [turns back to the guy-in-suit] Now, you were saying?"
[guy-in-suit] "Well, guvnor, I couldn't help but notice you guys seem to have some sorta wolf-problem. Overpopulation. Did I hear correctly you planned on letting the problem sort itself out?"
[governor] "Yeah. We wait 'till they die from starvation, and than the prey-preadator ratio will balance out again... And it won't cost us a dime!"
[guy-in-suit] "Ah. But what if I said there are other alternatives? [governor nods attentively] See, guvnor, I represent the Hunting Lobby, and we have allways been concerned with the well-being of mother nature. That's why we propose, in the intrest of protecting those poor wolves from themselves, shooting two thirds of them in the head."
[governor] "How considerate... but letting them starve is easier - and cheaper."
[guy-in-suit] "But shooting them in the head is more fun! [governor is not persuaded] Sir, think of the tourism-revinue those hunters would generate, thus stimulating the local economy. It'll be fun and profitable!"
[governor] "Bah... it still sonds weird; killing wolves to save them... and think of all the backlash if the greens get word of this..."
[guy-in-suit hands over the second $-bag. The governor suddenly jumps up, his eyes filled with determination and idealism]
[governor] "For the love of God, we have to save those poor wolves! By shooting two thirds of 'em! [turns to secretary] Kid, fetch me my gun! Let's go kill some wolves... to save them, of course!"

well, think what you wish.....here's an update..
"Woe for Wyoming Wolves
Wolf, USFWSThe Bush/Cheney Administration is bending over backwards to let states in the Northern Rockies kill as many wolves as possible.
Late last month, federal officials approved a wolf management plan for Wyoming strikingly similar to those they had earlier rejected. The plan gives wolves few new protections and allows them to be shot on sight if they wander outside the protected areas of Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks and surrounding wilderness areas.
In a related development, federal officials are also working to give the state leeway to kill more wolves -- even while they remain protected under federal law. The proposed federal rule change would allow Wyoming to kill wolves if they cause harm to wildlife -- despite the fact that wolves are wildlife.
Federal officials plan another round of public comments on both matters this summer. We’ll be sure to let you know how you can get involved."
this is writing straight from the defenders of wildlife
