Hiyas. My name is Wolflux, and I'm a writer (d'oh *smacks own head with a brickwall*
Anyways, I thought I'd post my recently started fanfic here, and hope for some feedback/suggestions/constructive criticism, or just flaming if you want that too.

Here goes! Start of Chapter One.

[Notes from author: When you see character names presented like:
-----------
Alue
-----------
It means that the story is told from that characters viewpoint at the moment.]

Most probably, in 1925, the children would have died because of the Diptheria disease, had not Balto and his team of sled-dogs made it through the harsh lands of Alaska and brought the serum back to Nome. From Anchorage, the serum was brought by train to Nenana, but was stopped there because of the lack of railroad tracks. The sled-team made it to Nenana, and got the serum, and managed to bring the serum back to Nome, and the village was saved.

In 1926, Balto became the father of seven pups. He had a hard time watching the pups being adopted away eight weeks after that, but one pup was not wanted. This pup was named Alue, and looked like her father. Light grey fur, and looked like a wolf. A couple of months later, Alue discovered why she would never be adopted, and ran off. Balto ran after her the next day when he realized she wouldn't come back. On his journey to find his daughter, Balto discovered the wolf's natural ability; spiritual communication. Five animal totems helped him find his daughter at a cave where they fought against the fourth animal totem, the bear. They got safely out of it, and walked to the sea, where they met Nava and his pack of wolves. Some days after, the pack leaves for the next land, to follow to carabu, but Alue and Balto were separated. Alue told her father she had finally found her home, and as they disappeared, they howled the last farewell. Balto did never forget Alue.

[i]In the same period after Alue went off with the pack, some months later, Balto and Jenna stood on top of a mountain, waiting for something. What Balto wanted Jenna to see, was the airplane that passed through. They ran after it, but the airplane passed them easily and landed in Nome. After that, Kodi, another one of Balto's pups, arrived with his sled-team carrying the mail. After some happy rejoinements, Balto discovered the plane had landed in Nome, and ran to examine it. There he met a blonde man, the pilot, who was named Duke. Later on, it was decided that the dog team were to be replaced by an airplane, and that upset all of the mail-dogs. But the villagers agreed to a race to see who's fastest. It turned out the dog-team was more reliable, but Duke hadn't returned yet. This worried Balto, and the Muk and Luk came running, talking about some monster attacking them. It was "louder than a wildlight grizzly", and Balto realized it was the airplane. He tried getting the mail-dogs to help him, but they, not even Kodi, would help him. Disappointed, Balto leaves off with Muk, Luk and the pink goose Stella, in search for the airplane. They find it, and Stella also found Boris there, whom she had thrown into the plane (almost) by herself. Balto tells the others to go before him, and using an improvised sled, Balto starts the journey back home, dragging the injured Duke with him. However, when crossing the ice-bridge, it collapses, and Balto is coming closer to failure and death than he'd appreciate. Luckily, Kodi and the rest of the mail-dogs appears, having decided to help Balto anyway, and makes sure our hero lives to see another day. They return safely home, and Balto becomes the hero of the village again.

* * *
Nome, 1928, Alaska.

Balto woke up with a start. The clock was 19:23, and he was taking a nap after an exhausting day. It was turning dark, darker than usually, and Balto was worried. He looked around himself disoriented, his gray ears tilting in all directions, as he tried to make out where he was again. He sighs in relief. He was still on the wrecked boat, his home. It looked like a mini-version of Noah's ark, and Boris was doing the cleaning as usual. Balto laughed a bit to himself. 'A goose cleaning with a mop?'. It seemed almost too strange to be true. But that was not the reason for this feeling of urgency and fear. Most of the snow was gone now, as it was in the middle of July, and everything seemed fine. The grass looked perfectly fine, and the beach also looked in order.
Suddenly the feeling struck him again, and this time it gave him so much fear he gave out a loud yelp. Boris noticed, and came over to him, looking slightly confused. "Hey, Balto. Are you ill?" he asked with his, still annoying and somewhat stupid, russian accent. Balto grunted, but he didn't say anything. Boris shrugged, and went back to work, mubmling something that contained the words: stubborn, wolf, greyhead. Balto grunted again, and decided to take a walk. Well, not a walk. More like a run... a run for Nome.
While he ran, the same feeling struck him again. 'What's happening?' he nearly screamed in his head. Nome was closing in, and now it wasn't a run anymore, but sprinting. He was sprinting like he was being chased by the devil! He entered the village, and nearly ran down some of the people in front of him. They gasped loudly in surprise and fear before they jumped out of his path. But the one that was most afraid, was Balto himself. He ran to Jenna's place, and he would've made it there without problems, had not this unknown dog suddenly appeared in front of him, causing a collision. They both fell over, and Balto didn't stop sliding until he was by the mailhouse, three yards away. The unknown dog looked disoriented, but, it was a she, she quickly turned around, walking to Balto, growling loudly. Her blue eyes seemed to shimmer in anger. 'Blue eyes'? She seemed familiar to him... too familiar. "Alue?" he asked, and the dog seemed surprised. "How do you know my name?" she asked, instead of answering. Balto couldn't believe his eyes. But then, she seemed to recognize him. "Dad?!" she yelped out in surprise! Alue backed off, allowing Balto to regain his footing. "Dad, it really is you!" she yelled, and knocked him over again. This time, there was no growling. Only cuddling and licking. "Hey, Alue, stop that! You're making me embarrassed!" Balto said, laughing. They both got up again, but the worried look was on Balto's face again.
"Dad? What is it?" Alue asked cautiously.
"I'll tell you later, Alue. We must hurry to your mother." he answered, nipping Alue's neck to make her follow.
They both ran for some minutes, until they reached the church. Jenna was lying there, waiting for Susy, her owner. Jenna looked up, and saw Balto walking towards her, followed by a stranger female dog. At first Jenna suspected Balto had found an other mate, and she was hurt, but she recognized her eyes. "Alue!" she yelled out, and mother and daughter ran around each others playfully. Balto watched them for some minutes, his worries slowly fading away, but he had to interrupt the two. "Jenna, Alue... Come with me." he said, leading them back to the boat.
Back there, he sat down and took a deep breath. Jenna looked at him, worried. Finally, Balto broke the silence. "I... I have been having a strange, well, call it a feeling, lately. It makes me afraid, like... if something... terrible is to happen." Jenna peered at him, with a slight frown. However, Alue was quick to back up her father. "I've been having this feeling too, dad... All the wolves of the pack had it... But they scattered, and I couldn't... stop them. I ran home to warn you." She was serious enough. Father and daughter gazed into each others eyes for a second, but then Jenna coughed. "Are you sure both of you aren't imagining things?" she said... 'How could I imagine something that makes me scared enough to yelp!' Balto thought furiously. Then, behind them, Kodi suddenly appeared. He growled at Alue for a moment, before he recognized her. "Sis?!" He looked quite shocked. Alue only nodded, and greeted her brother with a lick in the face, then she turned to Balto again. As the conversation developed, Alue, Balto, Kodi and Jenna, all began to understand. There was danger stirring in the north.

Alue

I never thought of daddy as a dog easily scared, but now he is scaring me. He is planning to go on a journey to the Great North and discover the reason of this feeling. Kodi's coming too, *****. Why can't he stay home where it's safe?! It wasn't like this when he was younger, that's for sure. But, look at him now! Always throwing himself into danger. And he has grown too. Me, myself, now look like a real wolf. I am bigger and stronger, and my fur has gotten a darker tint. Kodi, on the other hand, looks more like his mother. He has a long, big tail, red fur on his back, and white fur on his belly. And then we have that strange nose-mark of his. It's almost invisible.
Anyway, I couldn't help, but object. "Dad, Kodi can't come!" I yelped out. Kodi looked accusingly at me. "And why's that?" he asked. I regret objecting at once, but done is done. "Kodi, you... lack the experience. You are a sled-dog, not a free wolf... You never learned how to survive in the wild!" Oh dear, it came out too loud. "And you did?" he answered. No, I hadn't... but being with the pack taught me much. I shook my head, but added; "I learned how to survive with the pack, Kodi." He doesn't look too convinced, and I just give up. Dad doesn't stand up for either of us. Suddenly I heard a familiar cough, and I turned around. It was Uncle Boris! "Uncle Boris!" I yelled out, and jumped on him, licking him enthusiastically. "Hey, Alue, get away from me, will you? I've missed you too, but I don't go round and round licking you, do I?" I go off him, taken a bit aback, then he gives me a big hug. " 'Tis good to have you back." he said. I couldn't help but smile and shove him off me. He eyes me up and down. "Look at you! You look even more wolf than your father! Pack life been good for you, eh?" He is way up in the skies. At least there was one person happy to see me. Very VERY happy, in fact. I laugh. "Uncle Boris, you haven't change one bit!" I said, and gave him a gentle push with my paw. As soon as my paw hit him, I heard another honk. An unfamiliar honk, and I looked right at the source. Who was that?! Boris chuckled, and called out a name. Bella or... strella or something. "Stella, she's not dangerous! Come over here!" Oh, it was Stella... whoever that was. I looked at the direction the sound had come from, and carefully, a pink goose walked cautiously out of her hiding place. I tilted my head, and this was confusing me. Dad came over to me and started to whisper an explanation. "Stella is Boris' mate. It happened a year ago. You should see their kids." I frowned and whispered back. "Kids? Boris? Mate?" I nearly scoffed, but I was given a nip on my back by mom, and she whispered furiously to me, asking me not to do anything stupid. Me? Do anything stupid? Couldn't dream of it... however, being the only one without a mate in this family, well, except for Kodi, he is too stubborn and egosentric in my opinion, who doesn't seem to want one, kinda makes me stand out. I smiled, and walked over to the steering wheel, lying down beside it.
Still, I don't like this... I don't like this at all.

The next morning, Dad was wandering around outside, apparently engulfed in his thoughts. I couldn't help but snicker a little when I saw him. It's just like the old times. I sat here, on this spot, watching Dad take his daily walk on the beach, when I was a pup. Now I'm watching him wandering around again... with the difference I am an adult, of course. I sighed. This is way too much for him to handle with just the three of us... but his determination is too strong to turn. But, Kodi can't come...
"Dad?" He turned his head to me, and I jumped over the edge and landed beside him. "Yeah, Alue?" Why am I nervous of telling him how I feel about Kodi's interference? "Dad, I don't think Kodi should come... He's -" "- inexperienced?" Dad interrupted me. I nodded. "You already told me that, Alue. I know he shouldn't come, but we need all the help we can get." Why won't he listen?!

Hehe. Sorry for this shameless bump, but any second opinions would really help me develop the story, improve, or whatever.

Yikes! This is old! I had completely forgotten about this old laid-aside project.

I might restart it once I am done with the Balto and the White Wolf sequel.

Ok., nice beginning, but I prefer at least 15 000 characters entries, because otherwise I finish reading before I actually start;)

Psh, it's old and retired :O
I may start it again, I may not. But this was my very first fiction about Balto, at least was supposed to be, then I got better at writing and cached the project =P
