It was dark out. The moon was barely shinning as dark blue clouds glided lazily across the opaque sky. Quiet, the trees were still, not one sound was heard throughout the forest, all was completely still, frozen like ice. Still as stone. The mountains loomed over the snowy plains on the outskirts of Nome, Alaska. A small down inhabited by humans and animals. Mostly dogs. Nome was, and is, the home to Balto. But, Balto is not our concern in the story. Our subject lies deeps within the wild wood that has not yet been founded by human or domestic animal.
There, are territories, territories of all animals. Wolves, bears, a variety of birds and canine-like creatures. Each is divided into specific quarters of the wood; they’ve set up their own ‘government’ so to speak. This ‘government’ run area is located six miles from Nome, off to the Northwest. The packs and clans are separated by a large body of water, an oasis, trees surround it. This is known as the gathering area for all the leaders of the clans and packs. Often do the Bear clans’, Wolf packs’, Bird flocks’, and other animal’s leaders meet here for discussions. Our focus is on the Wolf Clan on the farthest side of the oasis. Their domain surrounded by large trees of many kinds, mainly oak trees. There are caves hidden in the earth, on top of them is usually grass and more trees, so it is completely concealed. The largest cave is home to Niojei and Chiae, the leaders of the Wolf Pack.
Niojei and Chiae have led their pack for over 15 years, ever since they were of age to mate. Although they had never mated yet, it was never forced upon them. They were gentle, yet giant wolves. Enormous in fact ! They were a rare breed or artic wolves. A mix between arctic and dire wolves. They were the largest of all wolves, they had been breeding so long they turned into a new species of wolf, not yet discovered by humans. They had not even a name for themselves, but, nevertheless, they liked being nameless. Keep them unknown, they’d never be hunted down.
Now *ahem* back to where I had left you off.......

A wolf howled into the distance. Niojei lifted his head. His thick grey and black fur stood still in the cold, no breeze. Just nothingness. His cold, blue eyes stared at the woods that were beyond his reach. They were too close to the town Nome, he’d never wander there. Niojei was happy were he lived. Glad to be here, and not down there, he thought to himself from the cliff. With a small sigh, he turned around and walked back to his den were his mate, Chiae, lay asleep, unaware that he had left for a moment. As Niojei padded in quietly, he lay next to his beautiful Chiae. He looked at her for some time, studying her body. It had been long since he had last ‘looked’ at her. It was now, late in his life that he appreciated her beauty most. She still looked young, for her age. Her silky silvery white fur, black ears, little pink pads under her fuzzy fingers. She was lovely. Smiling to himself, Niojei licked her head and cuddled beside her, drifting off into a deep slumber.........
“NIOJEI, NIOJEI !” Niojei jolted upright, shock in his old eyes, “What ? What is it ? Who’s there ?” Niojei stood up and tried to adjust his eyes to the bright light shining in.
“Great news, sire !”
It was Déjà, the black hunter of Niojei’s pack.
“Chiae has had a pup !” Grinning widely, Déjà had Niojei follow him to Chiae in the nursery (yet another den, specifically for all pups. They are watched by the omega and nurses, or the upsilons)Chiae tiredly lifted her head; her eyes old and her fur looked worn out and dulled.
“Hello Niojei. Come,” Chiae motioned for Niojei to join her, “see our child.”
Gulping down his nervousness, Niojei trotted into the cave, head low, but tail high. The old wolf leaned over his mate’s shoulder, and smiled with excitement. There, in the paws of Chiae, lay a small, pure white pup. It lifted its head and looked at its father. It had piercing gold eyes, and small black tips on its ears. It glared at its father, then yawned and turned away for a nap.
“It is something, isn’t it? It’s going to be strong, I can tell.” Niojei whispered to Chiae after some time, “Have you thought up a name for it?” He asked.
“Yes, I have. And, she’s a girl, love. I was thinking something strong, but mysterious. A name with almost no meaning at all, but a fearful one.”
“And what might that name be, love?”
“SRA.”
The sun was shinning brightly, and SRA’s fur glistened in the sunlight. She was about one week old. Already she had opened her eyes, right after birth, which was uncommon. She had a thin layer of fur, so she stood by her mother and father for warmth often. When she wasn’t looking for comfort of heat, she was off attacking anything that moved. Since there wasn’t any other wolf or even pup her age, she hung around the youngest one she could find. The Omega of the pack, Zethinquoir. He was a grey colour, with a white stomach, a scar across his snout and left eye. His paws were black, like his heart. He despised children, especially SRA, for she was the only pup in the entire pack.
SRA jumped up playfully. She pounced and killed a small crow instantly. She started to bite at its neck, but she winced in pain. Her teeth were still growing. Anger grew quickly, and she pawed at the crow. Snarling, SRA pounced on it and ripped it apart, the younger wolves started at her in shock. A pup, only one week old, had killed and dismembered a crow. Snarling, SRA pounced on it and ripped it apart, the younger wolves started at her in shock. A pup, only one week old, had killed and dismembered a crow, even without teeth. SRA kicked the remains and entrails of the crow, and trotted off to annoy Zethinquoir as usual.
Good afternoon Zethinquoir” SRA said, a smirk on her face as she neared him. The grey wolf glared at her, then turned away. He slouched, as usual, his fur sticking up on his head and hanging over the left side of his face, “Afternoon little one.” He whispered. His voice was raspy, as if he had strep.
“What are you doing?” SRA asked with curiosity in her eyes and voice.
“Nothing. Why does it concern you?” He snapped and stared out into the horizon.
“Why shouldn’t it concern me?” She questioned back.
Grunting, Zethinquoir glared over at the other younger wolves, “Why aren’t you playing with them?” He asked
“They’re no fun to be with. Unlike you, you’re always fun to bother.” SRA replied, smirking as she answered. Zethinquoir stared down at the little pup.
“What is it you wish to do then?” Zethinquoir asked her in a monotonous yet angered tone.
“How about ‘search and destroy’?” She replied, grinning widely.
“You’re a vicious little thing! You’re always thinking about death and destruction.”
“What makes you say that?”
“Well, the way you tore apart that crow over there”
“Hmmm, yes well, it was instinct, you see, my dear Zethinquoir. I saw food; I pounced; I killed it. No other explanation is really necessary, now, right?”
“Mmm well, I suppose so, if you want to think about it that way.”
Zenthinquoir then rose from his perch and headed towards the oasis.
“Where are you going Zethinquoir?”
“To sleep.”
He’s hopeless, SRA thought to herself as she rolled her eyes and went off to keep her mother company.
