Animation Source Forums

Would it be a reasonable idea to embed YouTube videos on the site directly (I dont mean host them)?

And a side suggestion, I think there is a stable phpBB 3, so should the forums be uograded?

Embeded videos sometimes take a looong time to load up and it gets annoying and people with slow speed internet connections would suffer greatly. I dunno about the phpBB 3 thing, Anime League has just done a test for it.

Embeded videos? Why not...But I would have to give an option to disable this. I hasn't even thought about this, in fact.

Well it takes even more time to click and go to youtube AND load up the embeded video...

phpBB 3 is still in Beta version, and even when it will be released, there will be some necessary time to make the upgrade. (making a new design, mostly)

i dunno.. would phpBB3 be any faster or better than the current version? There is something i learned with the BIOS on the computer as an example, "unless something isnt working or is broke, DONT FLASH IT TO THE LATEST VERSION" i destroyed the BIOS and the computer is useless now. im sure steet knows this. all im saying is that unless its necessary or is much better, upgrading isnt always the smartest option. as far as embedding youtube videos, i think that would be a great idea, but it would probably take up ALTO more server space.

I'm not sure you understand me correctly. I mean a script, that dismantles a given YouTube URL and from that constructs an embed code. Steet doesn't have enough server space to actually store entire YouTube videos, (or so I think) but embedding them just makes use of YouTube space.



It shouldn't be too hard, I don't think. I'm trying to do something similar on my site...or something....o_O

You can't compare a BIOS and forums upgrading...
I have upgraded the forums at least 10 times already, and you're forced to do it if you want to keep it safe (the upgrades were for security reasons, preventing hacking and stuff like that)
The upgrade to phpBB3 is different though, because this is a real new version, with a lot more functions - especially things that I couldn't include in the current version because this meant adding MODs, and these are often causing problems. And really, from what I have tested, phpBB3 has a LOT of interesting new functions.
