Fanfic Teaser:

Balto woke up early the next morning. He was up so late the night before, thinking of what Jenna said. He got up and yawned as he stretched. His eyes tightly shut. In the other part of the boat Balto could hear the faint sound of Jenna humming a pretty melody. He silently walked over to the far side of the boat where Jenna is at. He watches her as she quietly hums their pups.
Look at her…Balto thought. She’s such a beautiful lady. Did I actually loose her?
Balto stood there and watched her as she nuzzled, groomed and sang to her pups. It was hard to talk to her about what she had said. How she had lied. But most of all how she couldn’t trust him enough to tell him.
Balto lowered his head and stared at his feet for a moment then quickly looked at her again.
“Jen?”
Jenna looked back “Oh!” exclaimed “Good morning Balto.”
Ignoring her Balto slowly walked up to her, his head low. “Jen we need to talk.”
Jenna looked confused “What is it ? You look upset.”
Balto folded his ears and sat by her; he took a deep breath and let it all out as he said. “I am.”
“What is it?” Jenna folded her ears. Never before had she seen Balto look so broken down.
Balto sighed and looked away, closing his eyes to think.
“Hun?” Jenna asked worriedly “Baby what is it?”
Balto opened his eyes and opened his mouth to talk. But nothing came out.
A fire of fear burned in Jenna’s stomach. Same with Balto’s…
“I heard you talking last night.” He said his head slowly turning to look at Jenna.
Jenna’s eyes grew wide. “You did?”

That night Jenna woke up to a slight whimpering noise in her ear. It was the youngest of the litter, Ally. She looked so much like her father. Jenna smiled as the pup cried. She looked around to see if Balto was still awake.
Nothing.
The pup’s eyes opened for the first time.
Jenna frowned.
“Look at you.” She said “The first pup to see and those beautiful brown eyes have to see a like me.”
Jenna licked the pup as she closed her eyes again and whimpered quietly, not of sadness or fear but of delight. As soon as Jenna raised her head to look at her daughter the pup opened its eyes again and stared at her.
Jenna smiled and shook her head as she gave out a small laugh. “Those eyes.” She whispered “They sparkle as the moon light reflects off of them.”
Jenna’s eyes fogged with tears. She tried her best to hold them back but they still grew and were forced to slide down her face.
“I remember when I had that same twinkle in my eyes.” Jenna sniffed “Your father loved that. But…Ever since your half brothers and sisters were born I’ve lost that sparkle.”
Jenna looked outside of the boat and to the sky. “That shine that told everyone that you were happy.”
She looked at Ally again. “Don’t loose that shine, Ally. Once it’s gone it doesn’t come back.”
Jenna gently nuzzled her pup as it happily yipped again. “I love you Baby . I just wish I could give you better.” Jenna laid her head on her two front legs again but here eyes remained locked on Ally. “You’ll never be able to see your other brothers or sisters. Never even know who they are. They’ll never know you. As their sister at least. I don’t know you might know each other as friends but until then you’ll never know them.”
Ally’s eyes were wide and locked on Jenna. She continued.
Not only that but I wont be around much either. The thing is your half sibling’s father, Steele is a bad man. I don’t even know why I got with him. But anyway I’ll have to protect the other pups until their older. Well…old enough to defend themselves.”
Jenna looked to see Ally yawn and snuggle against Jenna’s body and fell fast asleep again. Jenna watched as her pup wiggled and squirmed to find a comfortable position. She quickly smiled then whispered in her sweet pup’s ear.
“I’ll always love you Baby. Don’t you ever forget it.. ” And shut her eyes to go back to sleep.
Balto stood at the door, shocked.
