Would WQ have been better without all that spirit stuff?
I certanly think so-Aniu could have come to collect Balto and Aleu herself(not as a spirit).

While I agree that some magic parts - like Nava's "becoming one with the tree" - should have been cut, Aniu coming up to Balto and Aleu and leading them herself wouldn't have worked. If a wolf came up to Aleu and told her that she'd have to lead a wolf pack, she'd refuse because she wouldn't have learned the things she learned while on her adventure.
Plus it'd be terribly awkward.
And the spirit stuff gave the movie an interesting twist. You may think it was a random daydream for Universal, but these were actual beliefs that people held.

sorry... but I quite dislike WQ- mostly because all of the spirit stuff... They should have made a story(well you know what i mean), like B1 and B3...
my opinion..

I liked the spirit stuff. It actually taught me a few things, like there is a difference to being what you are and who you are. I also liked Nava's 'becoming one with the tree.'

Togo wrote: The problem is that Wolf Quest wouldn't exist without magical stuff. They could have used the same plot, but the result would have been much different. Spirits should have been used better in the movie, without trying to make them only for children. I believe that if they had developed this topic better, the movie would have been much more intresting.
I couldn't agree more, Togo.
The main plot of WQ was for Aleu to find where she belonged now that she realized that she was part wolf and that she looked like one also. Without the magic or the spirits, Aleu nor Balto would have been able to understand the true purpose of this sudden quest.
Also, the spirits helped Aleu prepare for the film's climax, which was when she realized the real reason why she was led towards Nava's clan mysteriously: she was meant to take Nava's place as Alpha. Without the Raven, she wouldn't have found the cave where Muru was lying in wait. Without Muru, she wouldn't have heard about the quest to find who she was. Without the bear, she wouldn't have been able to save her father's life. And without Aniu's dream vision, she wouldn't have been able to translate it, understanding the message that Aniu had continued to send to Nava and her son, Balto. So, although the Inuit spiritual stuff may have seemed awkward, it was necessary for Balto's main purpose: to find a home for his daughter.
However, I do agree the whole "becoming one with the tree" thing could have been left out, much of the other magic was necessary or else the film would have been extremely boring and pointless.
Actually, the spiritual stuff and magic was a big reason why I enjoyed WQ in the first place.

Oh, no, I liked all the "spirit stuff." And I like Nava. David Carradine works so well as his voice.
