Seattle Slew and Ruffian are two of my favorites, but Barbaro is most likely my favorite. Not because he's one of the latest favorites but for the fight he put up to stay alive as long as he did. He will truly be missed.

Wrong forum but... Barbaro is truly my favorite. He fought for his life that long and survived as long as he did. Great Beautiful horse almost known by everybody in America.

I have to not very well known favorites, Exterminator and Dan Patch. Exterminator. He isn't well known, yet he was one of the most amazing Thoroughbred racehorses of all time. He won the 1918 Kentucky Derby and raced from age 2 to age 9, when he injured a tendon, forcing his owner to retire him. But before he was retired during his races he had to carry more weight probably because of his power, yet he still placed high in major races, setting records that weren't broken for several years. He was a gelding (a castrated stallion (male horse)(he was gelded (castrated) before he was three)) so he didn't sire any offspring. He lived from 1915-1945. Source: Old Bones, the Wonder Horse; Wikipedia
Dan Patch Dan Patch wasn't a Thoroughbred, and he didn't race at a run, with a rider on his back. He was a Standardbred who paced (lateral pairs of legs move foreward) pulling a sulky (light two-wheeled cart) and driver behind him. He never lost a race in his life (1896-1916), he lost two heats (parts of a race) though, but he never lost a race. He set records that weren't equaled for several years, and weren't broken for nearly twice as long. Toys, cigars, several things featured Dan Patch.
