I dunno...I'm just a real big Sean Connery fan, so I have this big, fat BIASED sign hanging over my head...but I actually thought the movie was a little bit of a bore. Not exactly because of the elements, war movies (especially submarines; the only good submarine movie I know is U-571) aren't really my most favorite thing in the world.

For me I really loved the film, I haven't read the book though so I'm not sure if it follows it completely but anyway the movie was very good! 8)

The film was good - but mostly because of Sean Connery. The story... was written by Tom Clancy, so expect little to no nuance, bulging patriotism and lots of techno-babble.
By the way, 'Das Boot' was the best submarine movie ever, 'U-571' was just mindless popcorn.
