Post subject: What do you look for in a horse?
PostPosted: Sun Apr 01, 2007 2:44 pm

Ok I know I posted something like this saying that I might be getting a another dog after we move. Well that's not going to happen but instead my mom said that it was possible to get a horse after we move. And we would board it near our house and I would own it and so on. Anyways, I was wondering what I needed to look for in a horse when we are out looking/buying one. I haven't decided what breed I would want right now. I'll post it up here when I figure it out. I have some ideas what to look for in a horse but need more then that. So if anyone know's please tell me. It will be really helpful to me and my family.

I'm a breeder... The list is long. I'll pm you with some more tips.

I'd say a QH is a very very good breed. If you want a calm horse, it's safer to go with a gelding.

Watch for people drugging an agressive horse to make it seem calm.

feel, up and down all of the legs, and lift the hooves to check them.

Ride the horse on two different days before you buy.

Check inside the mouth.

Walk the horse on a lead rope and see how it walks.

Ok, thanks. I'll have to remember to write it down or print it out when you do.
