Read this article :

http://mag.awn.com/index.php?ltype=page ... 224&page=1

I already knew that they were going to close their Disneytoon australia studio. But I didn't know that they don't plan makinging anymore DTV sequels...

I have mixed feelings about this. Yes, they were low budget sequels, bad animation and all, but I still enjoyed many of them. And, this was also the ONLY way to get new 2D animated films, since they are all-3D now...

I really think this could be the end of 2D animation in the US. The only DTV sequels that will remain are...the Land Before Time sequels. Gulp...

And another interesting article on the matter (which mentionned Balto 2 & 3, for once...Because they are usually forgotten) :

They finally understood that quality is better than quantity,

the quality of the new cartoons isn't as good as it was years ago.

Don't you see a contradiction in what you said?
And I still don't see this as good news, because I really don't like all the 3D films they make now. Even though I force myself to see some of them, as if there would finally be a great one, but this is yet to come...

I read in a news article about Disney that the top guy there (don't know the name) is actually planning on making 2D animated theatrical releases in the future

I know, but for now these are only plans, and do you know how much time it requires to produce good 2D animation films? 3 to 4 years...This will be a long time without any good 2D film. And the great majority will still be 3D, now that they've moved everything to it they can't really go back because it would be very expensive for them...

Well the 2D industry is already history...Since 2004 I would say. So it probably won't be worse when you will graduate...

Everyone, this is not true! Pixar, well had a problem, so Pixar films may not come out. However, I heard they are making a new animated film titled "The Frog Princess"

For more info, go to:

Yes but back then it wasn't what I wanted to do,so i didn't pay alot of attention. I guess I could draw the new rides since the parks are alot better anymore than the movies. At least the parks stay with the originals mostly.

Which is what I said, it won't be released until 2009. This is the only one, and there will be a huge gap meanwhile...

I see it as both a loss and a gain: you lose seeing traditional 2-D for the most part(CGI has been getting on my nerves particularly since I had to sit through a particular joke called Cars)- or not having it in the main stream as often as it should be-, but you gain the extermination of some of the most irritating sequils known to man... Disney DTV.

Now I'm not entirely a sequil hater. I'll miss seeing films like TLK 2, Lady and the Tramp 2... heck, even The Fox and the Hound 2 wasn't THAT bad in my opinion. But for the most part these movies were just the result of Disney trying to make a grab for more profit while making a mockery of the classic films. It shows in their quality, whether the animators meant it or not.

I'm somewhat glad to see the end of the DTV era, but I think it may be the road toward the death of 2-D which is the worse thing that could possibly ever happen to animation. I'd rather keep the cheap sequils if, in turn, it would one day spark some kind of interest in traditional animation again.
