I was watching a really interesting show the other day on supernatural and it was talking about how there were reported cases about an animal being able to take demons out of a person who is supposedly possed. They interviewed family witnesses during the program. What caught me was that they said the animal usually did this by mentally battling this spirit that was possessing the person. There were about five reported cases that they talked about. This was able to work after exorcisms, cleansing ceremonies, etc. failed. My question is, Do you think animals have souls? And if so, do you think they're more advanced spiritually than us? because that documentary really freaked me out.

Well, I'm going to rely somewhat on Catholic theology here, with a generous portion of my own personal beliefs here.

No, I don't believe animals have souls, in the sense of a "Christian" soul. Most Christians regard the soul as the immortal essence of a human - the seat or locus of human will, understanding, and personality - and that after death, God either rewards or punishes the soul based on one's life and deeds on earth, most notably belief in Jesus Christ as the Redeemer and Son of God. I don't believe that animals are ensouled in the fashion. I believe that when Jesus died on the cross, he redeemed the souls of all mankind. I don't believe that he died for all the mosquitoes and dogs and elephants around the world also.

However, I do believe that animals go to heaven and if a person is lucky enough to get there, God will allow us to see our furred and feathered (and scaled and what have you) friends that have passed away again. I don't think that God would keep our pets from us in the eternal paradise of heaven.

In conclusion, do I believe that animals have souls? No. Do I believe that they will go to heaven when they die and that we can see them again after our own death? Yes. I believe that St. Francis of Assisi watches over our animal friends and that in the eternal paradise of heaven, "The lion shall lay down with the lamb and the child shall lead them".

As for this I think it just depends of what you believe in. Many people can give you different things. You just have to do what you do. I have many things, and some did upset me. But after time you find your own believe, even if it may be against your religion, that's what you have faith in. If not, just read the other post I made on this along with the other members
