 Post subject: Small, stupid details...
PostPosted: Mon Mar 19, 2007 7:34 pm

These are just small little details that could be fixed, but they aren't really that important. Please don't inform me this is useless, I already know, but...why am I posting this? Oh well. Here goes.

First off, when you look back at older articles and such the comments sometimes don't show avatars and the smilies appear as just : lol : , without turning into the image.

Secondly, there is a bug with the poll. When you have just voted and it shows the results, you can vote again. I don't mean you click on the options to vote again, but RIGHT after you vote, if you refresh the page it adds a vote to your choice-I'm guessing there's already a cookie thing in place because when you go to another page it just shows you the results and you cant vote.

My guess would be to make a seperate page called vote.php and when the vote is submitted, send the user to vote.php which inserts the vote into a database and redirects the user to the main page. There's another little thing I'd like to add about the poll-it would be more conveinent to redirect to the previous page. It's easier to explain by posting the code.
(this is the form)
Code: Select all
<?php
$url = $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'].$_SERVER['PHP_SELF'];
echo " //form
<input type='hidden' name='location' value='$url'> //end form
";
?>

This would be added into the form, which would have to be turned into a seperate PHP file which is opened by an include(); statement at top of the page, so every page would be a PHP file because of one simple statement...Isn't likely, right? Well, for the heck of it, I'll continue the script. This part is the processing script after it is connected+ inserted into database...

Code: Select all
echo"Processing..."; //this shows for a fraction of a second probabl
//y, so the user can't click refresh
?><?php $url = $_POST['location']; ?><?php header('$url');?>

I know it's impractical and unprobable, but maybe there's some other way of getting around it that I'm not aware of. After all, I'm not a magical PHP wizard, just a begginer...

Also, adding projects to the navigation bar on the left would be nice... Well, steet is the only one who has control over all of this, so I'm pretty sure if he decided to do it he would know how.

Just some retardation for your consideration. That's my slogan.

EDIT: Also, another nice thing would be "QwikPM". You know those advertisements that are popups withing the page? I mean like, those that slide across the screen and you have to click close? There's one at isp.netscape.com, showing the latest news. This could be like that-except it's a small version of the PM system with no emoticons or styling...Just came out of my mind a few minutes ago.

Yes, that's because I changed the way they are managed. (don't ask me exactly why, I don't remember) Can't do much about that, but I don't think it's so important.

Well I don't think many people would think about refreshing the page immediately after voting...You probably thought about that because you seem to know how things works when you program a site. And, polls are only an indication, a general opinion from the visitors, they are not 100% relialable.

I will soon make a dedicated page with the contests/tasks, and the projects will probably be moved there.

Maybe, but that seems to be lazyness :lol: Well doing this would mean adding much code to the other pages, so I would prefer to stick with a single clean page to send PMs. After all it's only 5 more seconds to load the send PM page.

Sorry, I've just gone a little crazy with looking for anything, these are just my little thoughts in my little obsessive brain :D.

Yes, it is laziness. I think I just had a relatively good idea but I'm not sure-no, it's a bad idea. Nevermind... :roll:

These aren't bad ideas, but these are just some details, some changes that I believe are not really important.
