Ok, I don't rant too often but some things just get on my nerves a bit too much.
I've only been back a while and already I'm ticked off with people who post things that are totally pointless and they know it!!!

Okay, if they're new and have'nt looked for existing things then fair-do's they're being a bit dense but people who post things like in the questions page, someone posts a question but all they've done is write jibberish and put up links that are probably either rude, don't go anywhere or just plain stupid, why??, and idiots who purposely join the site to post something useless, I don't get it!! And why the heck do people insist on posting things like "cool" as their reply? It drives me nuts, especially when they get told not to and then whine about it!! It's plain common sense, if you're gonna say something at least make it worth saying, who cares if you think something is "cool", say why you think that or at least say something remotely intelligent along with it or don't you think at all???
Worst part is...they keep doing it!! They see someone else has done the exact same thing then go do it themselves, Why do that?? What the heck for?? Do you think you're gonna acheive something by it other than showing everyone you're a complete moron?? It's pretty simple stuff, if you're gonna say something then say something that's actually worth it!! I would'nt mind but it's even in the rules, if you're joining a site I'd at least think you could read!! And if you're one of those people who think reading the rules is useless then you're an even bigger idiot than I thought you were!!! Stop it with the annoying, pointless rubbish!!

...I think I'm done now...yep, enough for today.

I believe it's called "spam?"

And they do it for a simple reason, to get their post count up. It's extremely annoying, but I just ignore the posts. They probably don't even read the topic half the time, and I think they should get a warning for this..

I think you're talking about spam bots...They often spam the questions pages. These aren't "humans" but only computers. They do that to get the maximum number of links to their sites in order to get better ranking on search engines.
Unfortunately they aren't easy to block.

I'm not sure bots is what he's talking about, steet... Unless the gibberish looks like:

%20Zantrex%20%203!&20www.zantrexthree.com

i don't know exactly what it looks like but whatever...

Wow...That sure was a meaningful post (sarcasm)

Yeah, some members do make many pointless and unnecessary posts just to get a meaningless point count up.

Personally, I think the post count is nothing more than a way to see how many answers you've collectively made during the entire time you've been on the forum. It;s not something to obsess over, or to brag about.

Picture this: a member just made let's say 30 spam-like posts, and he's a batchler. (you can see whaere I'm going with this, can't you). He sees a hot girl and says, "so yeah, I have 150 posts on this forum I go to."

Yeah, great pickup line Romeo. What's for the oncore; telling her four posts were meaningful?

Please, do us a favour and stop.

I have an idea though. Why not find these members and reset their post count to zero every time they leave the forum or log out?

I think he does, he mentioned the questions page (where bots often posts), and this is exactly the type of things that bots write.

Uh, no, those are bots. I don't think that any person, new or not, is stupid enough to post links to sites like that on a page for asking questions. A new person would, if anything, post a question that has already been answered.

The only reason you think that it's new people is because you're known to hate anyone who recently signs up.

Yeah UK, I have seen those questions and havn't bothered with them. Most of the time I think Tibb closes them after she answers them. DOn't they understand if they have the same question to just go and look at the recent articles Like: Why does this mean (link) What is a spam bot? THis link doesn't work ect... But I totally agree ;]

I have a suggestion on this... Why not add a Verification code system to that page and perhaps other pages on the site? You know the code with letters and numbers that you have to enter, to verify that you're not a spam bot.

I recently did so with the registration system on my forum, and now no more spam bots have registered, nor posted any junk.

That kind of thing is VERY annoying. Would you really want to have to do this everytime you post a message on the site? I don't think so...
But I have tried another way to block them (rejecting messages with too many links, since most of them have more than 3 links in the posted text)

I know.. But thats not what I'm saying.. That came out wrong, sorry.

Use the Verifacation code system on the Registration page. Only real people could register on the site and forum, and therefore only real people would be posting. That would also cut down on the extra and even perverted user names I've seen being registered, which means slightly less dataspace usage as well.

True, but it wouldn't solve anything on the Questions page...guests can still post spam there. So this would only solve half of the problem.

There's no problem with the registration, bots don't succeed in registering on the site. (they can't register on the site because I did the registration process myself, and now you can't register on the forums, you're forced to register on the site first)
Questions get spammed because they don't need registration. I did this because I know there are people who don't know how to register and would like to ask there, and because sometimes there are account problems, so that there's always a place to ask when someone is in difficulty.

This (partially) reminds me of a topic I posted a while back (http://baltosource.timduru.org/board/viewtopic.php?t=11909).

I do know where you're coming from, I deal with 'noobs' having no regard for the rules (that are clearly stated like, everywhere).

But, since I'm a lazy persona (and hungry), to make my point, I'll just say:

"That topic explains what I'm trying to get at..."
