I told this suggestion to steet when I was a wee lad (XD), and now, I just thought I'd share it with all of you because you are all very special. ^^ Give yourself a pat on the back for being so special. There ya go!! Pat like you mean it.

Anyway, how many of you wuold agree with me that the site needs some new material? Something that changes frequently, and by that, I don't mean the Random Page, which will only keep you occupied for so long. XP I see we are losing sight of what originally brought us all here. Anyone of you know what that is?

Gasp. How'd you guess? Why, it IS Balto. Give yourself another pat on the back. XD

What this site needs to do is to encourage its members to become more active, and to participate more in activities set up to keep you all excited about coming here.

I hear you thinking: Okay...four paragraphs of rambling. WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU TRYING TO SUGGEST HERE?! SPILL IT, SUKA!!!

What I had in mind is a NEW kind of contest. And I'm not talking things like, "My character needs a mate!! The prettiest wolf wins!!" or anything like that you find in the FanArts Section. XP No, I mean something more creative. Something that EVERYONE can do. Like "Go to any retail site, find any Balto movie on sale, and leave a comment on the item, describing how this film impacted you and chaged your life" sort of thing.

I dunno. The tasks will vary every time. From drawing a picture to writing a song, or just something you created.

HERE HOW I THINK IT WOULD WORK:

1.) Contests Mods talk amonst each other and decide o a task
2.) There will be a new page on the main site that will replace the Random Page called Contests. These mods would post the task here.
___a.) Each task must have the following: A description of what must be done, a deadline, and some way (a text box to post a link, or an UPLOAD button) for members to send their submissions.
3.) The contest will run until the deadline date. Until which, all members are free to participate.
4.) At the end of the contest, subissions will be closed, and the mods will start going through, and giving out prizes to those that participated.
___a.) Prizes can range from extra member points to a special avatar or something
5.) If there is one, the Contests Mods will annouce the winners for FIRST PLACE, SECOND PLACE, THIRD PLACE, and HONORABLE MENTION, and they will put up a new task.

Each task would last ROUGHLY about 2 weeks. I thought it over, and here's a few things you should know:

MAJOR PROS:
- It would encourage member participation
- It would advertise both this site and the Balto franchise
- It would make members end in more works to the site (submissions in contests can also be added to your gallery or fanfic contents!!)

MAJOR CONS:
- Props to whoever becomes mod. This is serious work!!
- Submissions, and the new page will take up mucho space
- Members can cheat by copying what other people did

Wow. This sounds much more interesting than the Random page, no offence.

I think its a good idea. Although as you said, people could copy other people. Maybe if no one really saw each others? Unless someone wanted to show another friend on the site. That wouldn't exactly solve the problem, but it could make it better.

I really do like this idea. I would participate as much as I could. I thrive for things to keep me busy, but nothing really does. This could help us with no lives. XD!...

It does have its Pro's and Con's, but I still say it might be a good idea to try out. ;]

Yes, I didn't forget about your idea, I just had more urgent things to do.
About the fact people could copy each other, I've learned this from the current LKS layout contest...I'll give a possibility to not display the submitted content when it's possible to upload, until the end of the contest/task.

I also think that the "regular" visitors would also want to do their own contests too. So I suggest that I would make two pages/tabs : one for the mods contests, and one for the visitors'. The first page would be the mods page, so that to give it priority.

I love the idea! I would have leads of fun doing that!^^ I wonder what would be a good first contest? Perhaps, something like, "How would you design the Balto 1 cover?" Ouuu that would be doodles of fun!XD I can't beleive I just said "doodles of fun" O.o

That too...I understand you have your priorities. The thing with making visitor contests is that many people may want to do one at once, and there's be so many contests going on that probably wouldn't get done -- not to mension, that means extra submissions to pour over. A member or visitor can suggest a task to the mods, and if they like it, they can put it up. But no offense to anyone; having members create their own contests would be too tedious...Also, when you say "visitors", I take it you mean people who come to the site, but didn't register? If they send in something we'd have no way to give them their prizes...XD

However, as for not displaying submitted content until the task is over, I completely and totally agree. But perhaps the names of everyone who participated should be displayed; for verification purposes. ^^

To be perfectly honest... I find myself reminding myself to post something on one of the Balto forums so I don't forget what this site's... common denominator is (I hope you understood that... ), and for me, it's hard to say something on those because I haven't seen Balto 1 or 2 in a REALLY long time... and I've NEVER seen Balto 3...(I didn't even know there was a 3 until I came here!)

This idea is creative, Suka. It's good in how it allows people to be creative and remind people why they even came here in the first place!

I'm all for this, but I guess that means I have to watch the Balto movies again sometime soon... but it is very good for those who have seen them recently, so don't let one mod who's not too familiar with the movies as other people stop you! ^^

Well in that case, in a first time, I would stay with the mods tasks, not visitors. When I said visitors I meant members of course.
I said this because the forum is already crowded with contests, mainly fanarts...

Quite right; my point precisely.

This contest requires a little more creativity than blindly telling members to just "draw a picture, and here's how I wan it to look like". It won't at all be limited to just fanarts, because frankly...fanart contests were the only contests I've been seeing around here, which can grow cmbersome after a while...one can only be told what to draw so much before they finally lose interest altogether.

I got bored of reading at paragraph 3-4 umm but I guess it's a good idea?
