Okay, there have been ALOOOOOOOOOOOOT of Balto/My Chemical Romance music videos using the song Welcome to the Black Parade, and although I think its one of the greatest songs in a long time, I wanted to show how it does NOT fit with Balto (the movies) by translating the song into words people can comprehend. (to add, my PERSONAL preference on making music videos is to first find a song which lyrics can go along with the movie being shown) This translation is MY PERSONAL THOUGHTS on the song. So don't diss it.
First off, the title "Welcome to the Black Parade" it took me a while to figure out what it meant too, but now that I know what it is, its COMPLETELY obvious. A "black parade" equals a funeral, because its basically a line or group of people dressed in black to mourn those lost. Which is what this song is about: someone's father died.
When I was a young boy,
My father took me into the city
To see a marching band.
(This stanza is pretty literal. When he was a boy, his father took him into a city to see a marching band in a parade. May have been where he died, I dunno.)
He said,
"Son when you grow up, will you be the saviour of the broken,
The beaten and the *****?"
(His father is asking his son to grow up and basically be an inspiration to those in need, whether they be crying over things gone wrong, or those physically abused by someone, or any of those on the 'wrong side of the tracks' who have grown up in a very hateful fashion.)
He said
"Will you defeat them, your demons, and all the non believers, the plans that they have made?"
(This line is a little more confusing for me, but I think his father is asking him to overcome his inner demons [like doubts and other bas thoughts] and to overcome the non-believers, like those who have no religion and try to push it onto others.)
Because one day I leave you,
A phantom to lead you in the summer,
To join the black parade."
(His father, still speaking, says he's going to let an angel of some kind watch over him that summer when he goes to his father's funeral. His father probably knew he himself was going to die, and so was probably telling him to just stay strong because he [his son] won't be alone. Then the lyrics repeat themselves.)
Sometimes I get the feeling she's watching over me.
And other times I feel like I should go.
(He's singing about his mother watching over him. Or maybe it's Helena from that other song...I dunno. Its hard to say, but he's also thinking about joining them.)
Through it all, the rise and fall, the bodies in the streets.
When you're gone we want you all to know We'll Carry on,
We'll Carry on
Though your dead and gone believe me Your memory will carry on
Carry on
We'll carry on
(Even though his father is dead, they'll remember him and carry on with their lives strong, through good times and bad times.)
And in my heart I cant contain it
The anthem wont explain it.
(Not too sure on this one, but even though he's carrying on with his life and doesn't know why or how he can because he still misses his father very much.)
A world that sends you reeling from decimated dreams
Your misery and hate will kill us all
(Who he is referring this to, I have no idea. But maybe its saying that mourning and hating people after they die for ridiculous amounts of time will only put more pain and suffering into others and their dreams.)
Lets shout aloud a prayer
Defiant to the end we hear the call
To carry on
(He says despite how everyone is [mourning, etc.] let us shout a prayer and carry on with our lives after someone's death.)
We'll carry on,
And though your dead and gone believe me
Your memory will carry on
We'll carry on
And though your broken and defeated
Your weary widow marches on
(Once again says although his father is dead, his memory won't die. And though his illness or whatever he died from caused him to break down and lose [die] his wife carries on as well.)
And on we carry through the fears
Oh oh oh
The disappointed faces of your peers
Oh oh oh
(Even though we're afraid, we move on, even if people are disappointed in us.)
Take a look at me 'cause I could not care at all
(He says to look at him to see that he doesn't care if people are upset that he doesn't bother mourning his loss.)
Do or die
You’ll never make me
Because the world will never take my heart
(He says that no one will ever make him not live his life.)
Go and try; you’ll never break me
We want it all, we want to play this part
(Bluntly says that they can try to break him, but they can't. Everybody wants everything and be a part of everything.)
I won’t explain, or say I’m sorry
I’m unashamed, I’m gonna show my scar
(He's not going to explain why he doesn't mourn his father or apologize for it because he's not ashamed of it. But he will say that it has affected him.)
Give a cheer, for all the broken
Listen here, because it’s who we are
(He says to celebrate the lives of those who passed on, instead of grieve over them and to not be ashamed to celebrate if you'd rather be happy than sad.)
I'm just a man; I'm not a hero
Just a boy, whose meant to sing this (song)
I'm just a man; I'm not a hero
I
Don't
Care
(He says he's not doing this for the glory, but to just tell people to carry on with their lives. He doesn't care XD. And it repeats a few more times.)
So in conclusion of this song, it's basically saying "When someone dies, no matter how bad the situation may seem, it's better to just pray for them and not mourn them because it cripples you[at least mourning them for a long time, anyway], but also that there's no shame in remembering them." It repeats itself alot when you sum it down, but it doesn't matter. Its a very good song XD But as it being a good song for Balto? I don't think so. You'd have to be pretty durn skilled to pull it off. Or at least have the right resources or go at it the right way.
EDITED: Well...I gave it a go. And it sucks XD
