I found this on Balto World, the site that I talked about in the B1 section :

I didn't know that there was this advert for LBT 11 & Balto 3 in the US dvd...Nobody told me about that. Well you may feel it's not important but for me it is because it allows to see how Universal consider nowadays the Balto license (in that case, they consider B3 exactly the same as LBT 11...)
And, what is that "Save 3$" thing exactly?

Well if that's a 3$ price reduction if you buy the two films, it's a good way for people (especially little kids fans of LBT who don't know about Balto, or their parents of course) to buy both films and not "cannibalize" themselves (something they surely have done nevertheless by releasing B3 only one month after LBT11 and at the same time as Mulan 2...)

Balto and LBT do not go together!!! although it might be a good way to spread Balto around... LBT fans will find out about Balto and then more ppl will buy the Balto DVD's... also maybe they added Balto's new movie to it so that it would sell better

So, does no one know exactly what is written on that thing? That's surprising...Are you just lazy or all got rid of it?

Hmm... I don't recall a $3 off coupon in mine... I wish I could help you.
I have no idea why they would advertise LBT 11 with Balto. I do happend to know that it was not right.

A "save instantly" coupon is a common marketing gimmick in the U.S. The coupon was probably, actually, on the exterior of the package, on the shrink wrap (the clear plastic). And what it probably offered was a chance to save $3.00 at the register when you purchased it. Somehow, Universal probably made money by convincing potential buyers they were getting a better deal.

It's not terribly common with products like games, DVD movies, etc. More like competing home goods (cleaning products), food, health & beauty aids (toiletries), etc. It is an eye-catcher, designed to persuade the buyer that purchasing THIS product will save you more money immediately than having to purchase the other comparable product (from a competing brand) next to it on the shelves. The discount would be rung at the register, and the check-out clerk would remove the coupon (or the buyer removes it and hands it to the clerk...either way, it's removed by the end of sale).

"Save instantly" coupons are all the rage now...and some people consider them better than the traditional method of having to cut a savings coupon out of a supermarket or store weekly flyer.

Coupon offers are commonly enclosed in Region 1 DVDs nowadays. They come from the manufacturer (in each case, sometimes you'll see a small fold-out packet of coupons and previews of upcoming releases from, say, Universal for instance. And sometimes contests as well. Or sometimes it's just a single sheet advertisement or coupon advertising another product from the manufacturer). Not always, but you do see them a lot. Again, they usually take the form of a combination packet - contests, previews of upcoming DVD releases, and special offers and discounts. That's probably what the LBT 11 advertisement is.

Couldn't have explained it better.

I'm not surprised they bundled it with LBT, considering the current scheme they have regarding the two franchises.

Ok, thanks. (a bit late but...)
