-----
A she-wolf scowled as she pushed out her final pup. Although she had only three, they were very painful. She licked the little pup, pulling it to her stomach to feed. She whimpered, and continued to clean up the last pup. It was deep and dark inside the den she had choose. It had been her first litter, but it was not her mates first. Her mate was the leader of a clan of coyotes, with a two other wolves. She was the only female. She had bore two females, and a male, being more promising, and hopefully to her mates liking.
She saw a shadow enter the den, and she let out a slight growl, but was soon silenced by another growl, causing the she-wolf to cower back slightly. Soon, the intruders scent came to her nose, causing her not to relaxe, but seem to tense up more. Soon, a large figure loomed near her, and her eyes zoomed in what was left of the light, bringing more light into the den through her eyes. She saw the figure of her powerful mate. He huffed, and sat down near her, sniffing in the thick scents in the air. He raised an eyebrow as he caught the scent of fear, coming form his mate.
"My dear, do not be afraid." He said, in a deep tone. She let out a breath of air in relief, her tension leaving her at last. The alpha let out another huff, shifting himself. He looked down at the pups, and let out a gentle smile. All the pups looked generally the same, aside their coats. Two of them, the females, had a silver coat, with swirled light cream coloured markings. But the male, was brown with redish markins swirled into his fur. The coyote alpha huffed again as his eyes laid down on his son. The she-wolf could smell his displeasure. She whimpered slightly, her tail wapping against the ground once. The coyote's attention came to the mother of his pups, looking slightly up at her. He sighed, and turned, walking out, leaving the she-wolf to consumed in his scents. She sighed, and gently nuzzled the pup again.
Three weeks passed, and the pups grew. They were still to young to join the coyote clan on hunts, leaving them with an adolescant coyote. The coyote wasn't very well known in the pack, one of the lower ranks. So he was forced to watch the pups of the leader he hated. He huffed, and laid outside the den, watching nothing inparticular. The three pups -- Koyotee, Luna, & Kaya -- were sleeping deep down in the den. The night's fresh clean air surrounded the young coyote, as he laid in watch. He grunted, and got up, shaking his pelt.
Suddenly, a screaming roar was hear just above, and the coyote looked up to see a mountain lion twice his size. The lion let out another one of its horrid yet powerful scretching roars. The coyote backed up slightly, staring at the large set of fangs the mountain lion had. Soon, the cowardlyness of the coyote was too much, and he took off running. And he ran. The mountain lion jumped from her pertch, and let out a devious laugh. She opened her maw, taking in deep breaths. She could smell the hot, warm bodies of the little wolf cubs down in the den. She let out another laugh, and began to push her way down into the den. But to her surprise, they were no longer sleeping. Three sets of eyes peered up at the cougar. She hissed, and one of the silver pups, Luna, ran. Luna manged to find her way just under the cougar before she could snap her jaws, and then as Luna past quickly, her teeth seemed to find the cougar's tail. She clamped down, making the cougar scream, and her tail lashed, throwing Luna against the entrance of the den. As Luna hit, she let out a loud yelping sound. Koyotee let out a puppish growl, and lunged at the couagrs nose, sinking his teeth into it for only a moment before he was hit back. Kaya made her chance, running under the cougar. Kora and Luna managed off together, the cougar pushed her way out, seeing the pups farther than the prey she knew was wating in the den. She hissed in laughter.
"Here puppy puppy." She hissed as she pushed back down into the den. There, was Koyotee in the corner. His eyes shinned there ghostly yellow colour, as he stared into the eyes of the cougar. She let out a smirk, hissing slightly. Koyotee knew he could not get away now. He whimpered, and pressed himself against the den's wall, trying to become invisiable. She came closer, to the point were Koyotee could smell her foual breath. But then, she paused, her ears darting up. She could hear the returning coyotes. She hissed, and quickly pulled the wolf paws in her jaws as any other wolf mother would do, only she put a slight pressure, making Koyotee stay limp. She pushed back out of the den, looking around for a moment, her ears swivling back and forth. She determined which way the clan was coming from, and went the other way.
The cougar ran, and ran, her breath hot against the wolf pup in her maw. Her paws felt like thunder against the ground as she guided her heavy set body clean over the ground. Her heartbeat could be heard in her ears as she ran, but she continued for about a half hour, before she turned, and make her way to where her home was. Within another ten to fifteen mintues she began to slow her pace, her body now slinking through the brush. She came to a rocky area, and slipped around, in a hidden place. There, was a den. She went over towards it, and sniffed for a moment, before entering it.
UPDATE - 04.03.07
The darkness engulfed the cougar and the little coyote mix. He whimpered in her jaws, and wriggled. She let out a huff of air through her nostrils, and walked to the back of the den. Her powerful build swayed over the ground, making little sound. She gently dropped the pup on the ground, him making a 'uff' sound as he fell, a bit of dirt rising around him. He tried to pull himself up and get away, but her large paw came down, putting a slight presure on him. She let out a hissing sound as she ploped down, pulling him into her legs, gently keeping him close. Her long rough cat-like tongue left her maw, running over his head, pulling up the fur.
"Rrrrrooowww," Came Koyotee's little cry from underneath the cougar's strenght. She held the pup still, licking his head. He struggled, trying to slip away. He thought of biting her, but he skin was much to thick for his teeth to make a proper effect on her to make her let go of him. He was afraid she might eat him after all. He again, attempted to push himself out of her grasp.
"Silly little puppy," The cougar began. "You can not get away from my grasp, and even if you do, where will you go?" She said as she licked his head. And then, Koyotee began to stop struggling. He stared out blankly, being slightly rocked back and forth as she licked him clean.
"Thats it, pup." She said softly as she cleaned his ears, and then the side of his neck. Then with one last lick, she stopped. She nudged him softly, and let her grip loosen. Koyotee whimpered softly, and then suddenly, he took off. Once he had thought of it, and his legs started to move, he could not change his mind. He ran out of the cave, and began to run off. He had no idea where he was going, but his legs where taking him away from the cougar. Back at the den where the cougar was, she laid there, not yet chasing after the pup. She sighed, and slowly got up. She opened her maw slightly, taking in the scents from within her nose and her mouth. She left the den slowly, just walking gently over the ground. She kept his scent hot in her mouth as she followed slowly behind. It was getting late in the night, and she knew the pup would tire quickly. She sighed, shaking her head slightly as she walked.
Maybe half a mile ahead, was Koyotee, running his little paws off. He had no idea where he was going, but he keep running. His little pink tongue flapped out of his maw, as he panted heavily. His paws gracefully ran over the ground. With each time they touched the ground, the blood pounded in his little ears. He ran until his paw pads begun to bleed, and the stinging pain that was brought to him made him stop. He whimpered as he fell beneath a tree. He huffed heavily, and panted underneath the tree. He closed his eyes, pulling himself closer. He then opened his eyes, and looked at his bleeding paw pads. He was about to lick his paws, when something stopped him. It was a voice.
"My dear, something might get you out here, all alone like this," Came the voice of the cougar, who laid on a branch on the tree not far from him. He looked up suddenly, gasping. There, she lay. She smiled softly, her tail flickering. He whimpered, and pushed himself against the tree. Slowly, the cougar got up, and she jumped down the from tree. She walked up to Koyotee, who was whimpering. She sighed, and gently leaned her head down towards his, and her tongue ran over his left paw. He pulled it away as quickly as he could, his eyes were full of fear. She sighed again.
"Come on pup, lets go home." She said to him, gently putting her maw around his little body, and pulling him up. He whimpered, but did not try to get away from her grasp. She carried him away, slowly taking her time to get back to her den. When they got back, she went to the back and put him down. She laid down, and pulling him up between her legs. She gently licked his head again, and he let out a whimper, rolling to his back. She purred softly, her tail swishing back and forth a few times, as she licked under his chin, and on his belly once before she began to sooth his sore paws. Soon, he gently fell into a deep sleep.
"Koyotee, what are you doing, boy?" Came the gentle voice of Kita, the cougar. Koyotee turned from the rock he was purched upon that was high on a cliff, looking over the lands that did not belong to them. Kita sighed, and walked towards him up onto the rock. She let out a gentle purring sound as her tail flicked back and forth once. Koyotee smiled at her, before turning to look back out.
"Awe, Kita.. Just looking.." He said, tilting his head back slightly to see her golden eyes gleaming over him. He tried to smile, and Kita just laughed before she let out a sigh. She sat to her haunces.
"You know you must'n go far, young'n." Kita warned softly.
"Kita!.."
"No." She warned with a hissing sound, her golden eyes burning into his fur. He cringed down slowly, whimpering slightly. Koyotee crawled, nearly on his belly, up to Kita, running under her front paws. She sighed, and let out a purring sound, licking the top of his head softly. Koyotee loosened up, and attempted to lick the underside of her chin. Kita sighed.
"Go back to the den, and wait there, pup." Kita said softly. Koyotee looked at her, a devistated look crawled over him.
"But..-"
"Now, pup." She said in a commanding tone. Koyotee sighed, and began to slink off back to the den. He stopped for a moment by a tree, to look back. He hoped she would turn to him with a smile, but she didn't. She didn't even look back at him. He sighed, and his ears pressed down. He trotted back to the den, leaving Kita to herself. Kita was zoned out into her own world, thoughts rushing through her head. She sighed, and turned her head slightly to see the emptiness behind her. She looked back out. Beyond the cliff she sat on, was lands of wolves. To the west was lands of cougars. And to the east, was Koyotee's home land. Kita had once belonged to one of the cougar clans when she was but a cub, but one of the jealous clanmates took her as a cub, and left her to die.
Kita shifted herself, letting out a huff. She was a strong cub, and she servived the worst. Now, she had in her paws the life of a wolf pup. Koyotee needed to be with his own kind, and Kita knew it. She sighed. She had really fell in love with the pup, cursed to never have her own cubs, so Koyotee had become hers. She did not want to let him go, but she knew she had to. He was always looking out over to the wolven lands. Koyotee did not know where he came from, he could not remember the fateful night, not like Kita did. Kita sighed. She thought it over for a few moments longer, and decided tomorrow she would bring Koyotee back to his homelands.
Kita sighed, and pushed herself up. She turned, and then looked back slightly into the wolven lands one more time, before she trotted off, back towards the den. It didn't take her long to get back to the den, where she found Koyotee sitting in the back. She sighed softly as she padded in, and Koyotee's greenish-yellow eyes turned towards her before turning away. Kita shook her head slightly.
She padded over, and found a place by the wall. She laid down, and curled up. She closed her eyes, and purred gently. Soon, she felt a nudge against her side, causing her to open her eyes and look back. She saw Koyotee shifting up next to her, so he could sleep warmly. She smiled softly, and then closed her eyes again, letting out a gentle yawn. She didn't say anything, nor did Koyotee. They fell into a peaceful sleep.
Koyotee woke up in the morning, the sun shinning into the entrance of the cave. He blinked slightly, before stretching out into a yawn. He blinked again as he looked towards the entrance, his eyes still adjusting to the light comming from outside. He looked around, his eyes half shut, and then they squinted as he realized Kita was no longer anywhere to be seen. He grunted, and padded towards the entrance. As he came closer, he noticed Kita outside of the den, just sitting there. Koyotee let out a little yapping sound, and her ears twitched, telling him she had heard him. He smiled, and then ran out, his tail wagging slowly. As he ran up, he slowed, seeing the solemn look on her face. He paused, and then took the last few steps towards her. He titled his head slightly to look around her muscular body, to where her head was.
"We are going on a journey, pup." She said, turning her head slightly for him to better see it. Koyotee got this sense of unhappiness from her.
"Where are we going?" Koyotee asked in a soft tone.
"You will see pup. We should leave now." She said, casting a caring gaze over him. He gulped slightly, and nodded. She smiled, and then motioned to the east, for him to follow after her as she started to walk forward. Koyotee followed obediantly, and they started off on this 'journey' that Koyotee knew nothing about. Yet he still followed. They walked for a good time, taking at least half a day. But finally, they closed in on the place they were heading. Koyotee's home land. The high strung scent of the coyotes was fresh in the air now, as they began to cross over the border into the lands of the coyotes. Kita kept Koyotee close to her now, keeping him low to the ground, as she did too. Soon, she found a spot for them to rest. An over hang by a river to rest under in the hot heat from the suns rays. She gently cleaned Koyotee, and let him take a short nap, before they had to move on.
She awoke Koyotee with her rough tongue running over his face, making him scowl, and cower back away. He opened his eyes to see her smiling face. But beneath her smile was the fear and sadness that Koyotee could sense. He got up slowly, shaking himself, and walking up beside Kita. She looked back at him, and then picked him up by his scruff. It was nearly dark now. They moved in, Kita staying low to the ground. They came near a small den, with one coyote sleeping by it. Koyotee let out a soft gasp, and Kita shooshed him quickly. She set Koyotee down in a bush, and told him to stay low and quiet. Kita jumped up into the tree, and watched the coyote. She knew it did not take long for one of the coyote's to fall asleep, so the rest of the pack could be close by. Kita waited a few more moments, before she moved in.
Kita walked up to the coyote, debating on slaughtering him now, or later. Finally, she decided he was not worth it. She turned back, and padded towards where she had left Koyotee. She smiled softly at him, and then pulled him up by his scruff. She went over to the den, and peered inside. You couldn't really see anything, so she took in a deep sniff. She could smell the two pups, the ones from the months before. Kita slipped down inside, settling Koyotee down with the others.
"You be good pup. This is your family." She said softly, nuzzling him. He whimpered, awakening Luna. Her eyes peered up at the cougar and at once knew who it was. She squealed, and yipped like mad. Kita's heart rushed, and she pulled out of the den to see the coyote. It was not the same one who had been there months ago. This one was willing to fight. He bared his fangs, his yellow eyes glowing. Kita hissed, before letting out one of her scornful cries that would echo over the land, alerting the near by coyotes that where hunting. Kita lunged at the coyote, slashing him across his face, leaving four deep wounds. He cried out in pain, but lunged back, locking into her shoulder. Kita managed to twist herself so her fangs almost sunk into his neck. She ripped at his flesh until his jaws loosened in a loud screetch, falling away. Kita's jaws found his scruff, and was about to lock into his neck when she heard the loud howling of the clan coming nearer. She hissed, and just latched into his scruff, throwing him into the air until he hit a tree, with a loud yelping sound, he fell to the ground. Kita looked to where the sounds of the on comming clan where comming, and then back to the den. She sighed, and then ran away. She disappeared into the dark night, as the sounds of the vicious coyotes, and wolves alike, came closer to the den and the wounded coyote.
UPDATE - 05.03.07
Half the coyote clan came lunging through the brush and trees towards the den. A snarling coyote ran through, heart pounding in his ears as he landed down. His body was covered in scars, and his face was grim. His ghostly yellow eyes shone in the night. His eyes first lay over the coyote that was wounded, and slowly getting up. A snarl escaped his lips.
"What is going on here?!" Came his most powerful voice, a deep and darkening tone to it. His eyes where glowing in anger, and some of the younger coyotes cowered, while the others stood tall behind their leader, staring at the fallen watch guard. The coyote pulled himself up, attempting to tell his leader what had happened, but his voice seemed to have died. The leader of the coyote clan let out another growling sound.
"Well?!" He demanded, the same few coyotes cowering at the sound of his voice. One of the elder coyotes advanced towards the den, and the scent hit his nose before he entered, causing him to let out a fierce snarl, his hackles raising in defense. The leaders attention shifted, along with the others.
"A cougar!" He growled, sniffing down towards the entrance. Some of the coyotes gasped, but the leaders face became more grim than it had been. He shot forward, pushing the coyote out of his way, pushing most of himself down into the den. He stopped. The same ghostly eyes that would match his own started at him in a glittery awe. The leader backed up slightly, looking at the pair of eyes for a moment. He backed out shaking his head, trying to get the pair of eyes out of his head as he did so. He growled, and then looked at some of the coyotes that were staring at him in confusion.
With that, a creamy coloured wolf jumped from the bushes, her amber eyes glowing as she trudged forward without stopping, seeking the den where she knew her two pups lay. She growled pushing past some of the coyotes rushing down into the den. Her eyes met with the yellow eyes, and she froze for a moment. She heard whimpers from Luna and Kaya. But she did not realize who this was that her eyes stared into. She took in a deep sniff, and her hackles raised as the scent of cougar was all in the den, and mostly over what was before her. She feared it to be the cougar - but she knew it could not be. Cougars had golden eyes - this thing has ghostly yellows eyes, just like her mates eyes.
She paused for a moment, unsure of what to do. Then she slightly backed up, so her rear peerced the cold night air as she looked at the eyes. Luna suddenly bounced, tackling the stranger in the den. His eyes left the she-wolf's as he let out a yelp at the realization of his ears being tugged on with sharp teeth to match his. Koyotee turned himself so his teeth grasped into Luna's tender side. She let out a yelping sound, and with that Kaya lunged into it. The she-wolf was unsure for only a moment longer as she pushe down latching her teeth into Koyotee's little neck, and pulling him out by his scruff. He was forced to let go of Luna, and the she-wolf managed to get both the pups of the strange creature who invaded their home. She pulled him out, and then wipped him around in her jaws, tearing at his skin before she let go, and he flew up until he hit the ground just before the bushes that the coyotes had trudged through. Koyotee hit the ground with a yelp, laying there. He felt his neck dripping with blood into the dust that had just risen around his body and settled back around him. He gasped for breath, just lying there.
The she-wolf paused, panting gently, her head pushed down slightly as she looked forward at the puppy who laid before her. Blood was gently covered over her chin from the gash she had made in Koyotee's neck. She looked at him, not moving more than the gentle rise and fall of her chest. Finally, the coyote leader moved forward. His eyes looked at the figure, the pups pelt resembling of the coyote leader and the she-wolf's, and the eyes - oh yes - the ghostly coyote eyes that defined the bloodline of coyotes. The she-wolf finally shifted herself, pulling her head up to its normal hieght. She looked to her mate for answers, but he did not even move his ears, giving her the feeling that she was invisable to him.
"Kill it." Finally came the leader's stern voice, huffing, and turning away from the scrap of meat. The she-wolf cringed slightly, but turned away, scurrying after him, and towards the den to see if her two pups where okay. Some of the coyotes grinned at each other, but did not move. Then, the coyote who had encountered the cougar stepped forward, and then on towards the dazed pup. Then a few of the other coyotes began to come closer. Koyotee managed to his paws, just in time to notice the approuching clan of coyotes. He whimpered, and backed up slowly, running into a tree. He looked back to see the tree, and then forward quickly to see the coyotes closing in on the space between them.
Kita's roar rang above them, causing the coyotes to look up in awe, and fear, to see her above the trees - but only for a few moments. She jumped down, bashing at the closest coyote. The she-wolf had crawled into the den, and the coyote leader was about to join her, when he heard the fierce roar. He turned back quickly to see the cougar rushing at one of his hunters. Kita slashed at the coyote's back, leaving a deep wound. He yelped out, and another coyote mix threw itself upon Kita, sinking its fangs into her thick shoulder. She let out a loud hissing sound as the mix hit her shoulder, moving herself so her paw filled with claws bashed into the side of the mix's head, sending him flying. Another coyote clenched into her side, and then the leader came rushing into it all. When Kita saw the alpha, she slashed off one of the coyotes, and pulled away as best she could.
"Koyotee!" Kita yelled, and slashed away at the coyotes as she pulled towards Koyotee's frozen little body. She got the coyotes off her for a moment, and as she passed by Koyotee, she picked him up in her jaws in one shift move. She felt a coyote sink his fangs into her tender tail, and she snarled, looking back to see the leader grasping her tail. She turned herself, and slashed him square across the face, causing him to let go of her tail and let out a yelping sound mixed with snarls. She slashed at him again, leaving a deep mark he would not forget. She turned, and quickly took off, running as fast as her body would take her over the ground. She had wounds, but nothing that could bother her to much. Her tail bleed the most, dripping as she ran, but she had to get Koyotee away from them.
Kita ran and ran, getting far away from the coyote alpha and his followers. She held the limp pup in her jaws the whole way, keeping him as close to her as possible. She tried to do better for this pup, and all she got back was almost the dead of her beloved Koyotee. She sighed as she ran, slowing down slightly to save her energy as she got farther away from the border. What hurt her most, was that not even the she-wolf, Koyotee's mother, knew who he was. She sighed, and ran on, until she came into sense of being safe - coming closer to the cave that she lived in. She slowed as she came to the familiar bend, turning into the hidden place that kept her den safe from the world - and her little pup. She went into the den, into the darkness, and back to the back, where she laid down. Kita then let Koyotee out of her jaws, placing him in her paws. She smiled softly at him as he opened his eyes slightly at her, letting out a soft whimper. She sighed, and gently ran her tongue over his neck.
"Its okay, pup. You're safe now..." Kita promised, gently clensing the wounds that his own mother had given him. She sighed again, knowing she had failed at bringing him back to his home to be welcomed. Koyotee had closed his eyes, trying to forget the pain, and fall asleep in Kita's paws. Kita closed her eyes, too, as her tongue basked over his fragile body.
UPDATE - 17.04.07
Moons passed, and soon Koyotee was as a year of age. He had grown strong, and had a very powerful body. His pelt had grown out to a lovely colour - but insted of having the swirls, his fur began to frige with darkish orange shapes woven into his pelt. The only part of him that did not change, was his yellow eyes - they continued to hold their ghostly figure.
Kita walked from the den, yawning, and stretching herself out. She looked around for Koyotee, knowing he hadn't gone far. She sighed, and walked farther out. She sniffed at the air, and then smiled sheepishly to herself. With in a moment, she dodged down and pushed herself backwards slightly as the figure of a young wolfish pup flew over head, and skitted into the dirt. Kita pulled herself up, and the dust cleared quickly to show Koyotee in the dust. He grunted and got up, scowling at himself before looking at Kita, who chuckled at him.
"How'd yahh do that?" Koyotee mumbled. Kita laughed softly, and smiled at him.
"I am your mentor. I know every move you got. You just can't get me pup." Kita said, making Koyotee scoff at the comment.
"I am not a pup anymore!" He protested.
"You'll always be my pup." Kita said softly, as Koyotee got to his paws, and made his way towards Kita. She continued to smile at him, admiring how much he had grown, and how big he was getting. She sighed, and looked off to the land where she knew other wolves lived. Her thoughts drifted for a moment before they were interupted by Koyotee.
"What are you staring at?" He asked. Kita grumbled slightly, and then turned her attention back to him.
"Nothing, pup. Nothing." She said in a soft, yet commanding, voice. Koyotee grunted at her, and then turned his attention away towards a bush. He stood still, and then took a few steps towards it. He let out a muffled 'ruff' sound, and when something moved, he shot after it. Kita watched, and sighed, her tail twitching back and forth. She did not race after him, simply sat to her haunches. Her mind and eyes went back to the land of the StarClan wolves. She pondered on it for a moment.
Would they accept him? Hes not even full wolf. Would they do to him what his own family did? He needs something better than this. He needs to be a real wolf, not half a wolf; I cannot give him what he needs. Alright then... Kita told herself, thinking deeply on it. Her first attempt had failed, but would her second fail too? She did not want it to be like this. But she had to risk it - for Koyotee, for herself. He needed to be with his own kind - not with her. She looked back to where Koyotee had disappeared, but he did not yet reappear. She sighed again, and slowly got to her haunches. She stretched herself, and yawned slowly, letting her tongue lull out of her maw, and then back in. She pulled herself up, and looked back again. Within moment, Koyotee lept through the brush. He smiled a wolfish smile, as a small white hare lay dangling in his jaws. It was skinny, and clearly already ready for death. Koyotee had challenged the small creature, and it had lost. Koyotee troted up to Kita, and dropped the small morsel at her paws. He sat, and smiled more.
"For you," He said proudly. Kita could not help but smile at his attempt to win her over; yet she knew that the pup had long ago. She picked it up in her jaws, and tossed it back at Koyotee's paws.
"Your kill, your food." She said to him, with a loving look in her eyes of approval. He smiled happily, and then shifted himself back, up, and his head down so he could rip into the hare's white pelt. When he did so, blood gushed out onto the white fur. Koyotee licked his chops, and dug into the lush meats. There was not much on the rabit, but it was enough to hold him over. Kita always killed bigger game, but Koyotee couldn't seem to. Kita was very strong, and powerful. All animals she challenged, were taken to their death. This had not been Koyotee's first kill, but it was bigger than most he could manage. Most of the meals he got were field mice, wounded birds, and berries. Only when Kita hunted, did he eat well. But Kita knew he would learn, one way or another.
For most of the day, Kita lounged around, watching Koyotee run off and play with sticks, or attempt to hunt down small game. The day went by slowly, and it was a rather warm day. Kita yawned, and flickered her tail across the ground. Her eyes closed halfway in a laziness she could not escape. Koyotee soon joined her, laying only feet away from her. He yawned slightly as he laid his head on his paws, and whipped his tail on the ground once. Kita began to doze as the time passed, and Koyotee had flopped over to his side, letting out a huff. He closed his eyes, as the sun was beating down on him. Within the next moment, Koyotee lifted his head up, and pushed himself back up so he was laying on his stomach again. His ears perked, and he listened to the forest around him. He grunted, letting out a slight whimper.
"What is it Koyotee?" Came Kita's droggy voice. Koyotee looked at her, and then back out towards where he felt something; something he was not used too. He sniffed the air, and listened to every sound - every movement - around them.
"I dont k-" Koyotee began, but was cut off by a loud screaming howl through the brisk air. Kita's attention was jerked, and she was now paying close attention. Two more high pitched screams came after it; they closely resembled the first, but you could hear the difference. Koyotee got to his paws, a worried look filling his face as soon as he saw Kita's face - which was filled with worry.
"We must go," Kita said, her golden eyes glaring harshly at Koyotee, but Koyotee knew it was for his own good. Her scent was filled a feeling of being scared, and this frightened Koyotee. He had never smelt Kita scared, at least not like this. Something was terribly wrong.
"Go!" She hissed, and Koyotee turned with a jult, running. Kita followed closely beside him. Kita directed Koyotee down a trail that lead into the dangerous cliffs. They still ran, but not as fast, and much more carefully. Koyotee kept glancing at the edge, causing his fur to stand on end. Kita followed with less worry for herself, but for Koyotee. They finally stopped when they got to where the cliffs where more dangerous, and they rested for a few hours under the shade of a overhange. Kita slept restlessly, and could not wait to move on. Her scent of fear had died down, and was very subtle now. Koyotee was able to rest with this in mind; but Kita did not. By the time Kita awoke Koyotee, it was morning of the next day. They had cleared much of the path that night, as for the moon had kept the path warm with light. But as it disappeared, they had to rest. They had, and now it was time to move on down the cliffs. This would take most of the day, and Kita knew this. It was the quickest way to get where she needed to take Koyotee - and she knew that what they had heard would not go this way, but for good reason.
"Koyotee. Its time we moved on." She said to him, her amber eyes staring into his yellowish-green eyes, as they opened. He sighed, and slowly got up. He did not want to go further - he wanted to go back. But he knew that Kita knew what she was doing. He also knew something was wrong, and they had no choice but to keep moving. He nodded to her, and they moved on, to make there way down the cliffs.
UPDATE - 18.04.07
Koyotee seemed to go faster than Kita, Kita taking her sweet time as they carefully made their way down. Koyotee nearly slipped, twice, but managed to keep himself up. Kita grunted at him, scowling. He simply sighed, and kept on moving. As they moved on, Kita slowly went down; but Koyotee took it a bit faster - this being his mistake. Finally, Koyotee completely slipped. He yelped as he tumbled to his back harshly, and Kita gasped out. Koyotee tumbled until he nearly went off the edge of a ledge. His claws managed to dig into the rock enough to hold himself for the time being. He yelped and struggled to pull himself up. Kita rushed to get to this side, jumping from ledge to ledge to get to him as quickly as possible. Her muscles rippled beneath her pelt, and her eyes glowed fiercely.
"Kita!!" Koyotee yelped out, trying to pull himself up; but with all the struggling, he only seemed to pull himself down farther. He whimpered, and pushed his back paws against the rock beneath him. Within moments, Kita was now at Koyotee's side. She leaned her head down quickly towards his to grab his scruff.
"Hold on," Kita said, reasuringly, as her teeth gripped into his scruff, pulling him up. He yipped and yowled, pushing his paws against air until they hit back against the cliff. Kita pulled back until all of Koyotee was back on the cliff. Kita did not yet let go - first, she shook him with a slight fierceness. But once she thought he had realized what was needed, she let go. Her golden eyes glared at Koyotee.
"You need to be careful, pup." She warned at him, her voice cold; but her scent filled with worry. His ears pinned back against his skull, and his eyes averted hers. He knew he could have fallen to his death - but Kita had saved his life. He'd be lost without her. He was very grateful to have her. He sighed, and she looked away from him. She began to move away, heading over back towards the safer places to walk. Koyotee sighed, and slowly followed after her. It took them all day to finally get the the bottom, where the ground was flat. They had rarely stopped, but now the day was getting cool and dark. Kita decided they could rest for the time being - but would have to move on quickly.
